Thanks Jonathan and pardon the initial ignorance of mine thinking that Norths meeting nights are Thursdays rather than Tuesdays!
If this is the case and as you suggest the Club will be open on Tues chances are that I will be visiting on Tuesday 6th.
I presume Visitors entry is the usual signing at the reception as is the case when tournaments are held there!
Also, yes I will be at the SIO on Friday and most likely we 'll meet there for a coffee and a chat!
I was also hoping that you 'd perform in either the opening or the closing ceremony of the event. I was very impressed by your performance at the most recent Aus Championships Opening Ceremony.
I hope that SIO will keep up with those magnificent cultural standards in regards to performances, presentation and organisation as set by the Norths in January!
    See you all there!

Hi Jak. Visitors always welcome at norths and you have the procedure right. I hope to lock in Friday 9th. Not been asked to sing , and would be hard anyway as involves leave from work!

The Sydney International has now closed at 121 players.

I will be at the Doeberl Cup bookstall from Thursday 1 April to Monday 5 April.
Late entries to the SIO and SIC will be accepted on payment of the $100 late Entry Fee.

I will also accept SIO and SIC entries on Tuesday 6 April at Parramatta Town Hall up to 7.45pm. The Round 1 pairings will be published (at the venue and at www.chessaustralia.com.au) after the Players Meeting at 9pm.

Registration on the Tuesday evening is for overseas players who were not in Canberra (and for final payment of all overdue monies). All players that have paid in advance will automatically be in the pairing for Round 1 and need not turn up for registration.

Of course the advertised prizes are guaranteed Alana - what kind of organiser runs an international chess tournament and doesn't guarantee the prizes?

Regretfully I cannot play this year in SIO. Let me wish the same success as previous three years!

The official site does not seem to contain the schedule of the event. When are we supposed to show up tomorrow? Thanks.

    back to Syd

After a day of wandering around Blue Mountains wonders back in Sydney.
Parra Uniting Church, opened in 1885.
Provides free meals, (or almost next to nothing, ok if you say you re broke) and breakfasts.
Back to Chess, Anton Q+N vs R+2 Bs 6 Pawns each against Dusan.
Solo, the great swindler from what GM Ian Rogers described as a rather inferior position he recovered and gave his opponent a choice b/n losing her Queen or getting mated or both.
I also saw, in order of appearance, Garrett (looking fit) Berg (looking content) Sally (looking happy) William (smiling in the Analysis Room) Svetozar, Dusan, Ronald, Scott, (politely smiling behind his computer networks) hey R. Voon just crossed the street).
Talk to you later, gotta go to the restaurant for lunch.

Some intersting results. George beat Rujevic. . Also, Johansen lost.

Johansen lost because his opponent made an illegal move..

A knight went from f4-h2! and after this to f3, g5, e6 with unavoidable mate on g7 (a queen on on h6).
