Yes it is the last tournament of the calendar year. It should be a beauty. Remember the dates have been selected so that it does not clash with the important January tournaments but gives you a chance to warm up for them.

Several things to do.

Walk along the path from the end of Manley Beach to the the fairy bower.

Ride the bus to the city from Manley.

Walk the Harbour Bridge.

It is rumored that the Sandman might again be an entrant this year. After losing 120 ratings points from this tournament last year he seems a glutton for punishment. However it is worth mentioning that Sam Dalton’s rating has now gone to 2008! and therefore there is a great chance of getting some of those point back Leonid

The Box Hill Chess Club has acquired a second DGT board and we hope that it will be operable at the start of Canterbury Summer Swiss. when installed it will also be available for use during CV tournaments at the venue, but unfortunately too late for the 08 masters

Entries are starting to flow with David Hacche and the little drawing master Bobby Cheng the highest rated players entered so far. The sandman is still thinking, letting 'I dare not' wait upon 'I would' like the poor cat i' the adage

Melbourne is the best city in the world!

:D

Then why don't their chess clubs and organisers enter their tournaments in the Australian Grand Prix like everybody else?

The Myer family supports chess in Australia but the organisers at the two biggest chess clubs in Melbourne (Box Hill and MCC) don't support the Australian Grand Prix by entering their events!

PS Entries for the 2009 Yulgilbar - Think Big Australian Grand Prix are still open!

perhaps if the format of the grand prix were reorganised to include established club events too ;)

in which case would you tell box hill that any event which does not permit all of its entrants the chance to win the top prizes would be ineligible for grand prix status?

player 24 should be Serif Tuglaci 1648, the misspelling may have been why his rating is not there

Take care and God Bless, Macavity

Entries have now reached 40.

We usually get a reasonable number on the day of the tournament so things are looking good.

It is great to see that there will be at least three players from the Australian Masters playing.

Although the early bird entries have now finished, there is still plenty of room at the inn, with the first round starting tomorrow is at 10.30. If you are intending to play it would be handy to have your web entry in and then pay on the day. It will help us start on time

Good luck to Bobby Cheng! My prediction is - Bobby will become an IM in 3-4 years so may be this tourney will be another chapter in his continuous rise.

Overall, I have a feeling juniors will dominate the field once again :owned:
