Who are the entrants so far?

Thanks for the bump, should be somewhere in the range of three groups plus tonight.

Elliott, if you could turn up tonight at 7.00 pm, then we could make some arrangement with your opponents for a 7.30 start in other rounds

The tournament started last night and there are two respective sections: A and B.

In section A - Papadinis won against Kalish in his usual boring but consistent style. I won against Skiotis and Richard McCart upset Malcolm Pyke.

In section B i am not sure about all the results but as far as i remember, Peter Fry drew with Rad Chmiel and and Felix Wyss won against Roger McCart

Hello everyone,

13 players arrived at MCC to play in the Fitzroy Open Graded event; I was glad to see every one of them, but wish some of their other friends had come along to play as well. The groups were divided into one of 6 and one of 7, which has been fortuitously made up by Sarah Anton to a group of 8 avoiding a bye in that group; even so, Sarah will still forfeit what would have been her first round game against Paul Kovacevic.

Here are last nights list of players, then the results in each division, and then the remaining Pairings for each group.

Players Group 1

1. Papadinis, Jim VIC 1787
2. Baron, Michael VIC 2336
3. McCart, Richard VIC 1754

Hello everyone,

Well the adventures of the Fitzroy Open continue, though hopefully this is the end of them. As previously noted, the first night saw 13 players arrive, which during the week became 14 players with the inclusion of Sarah Anton. Mid-week adventures consisted of the happy news of Ben Gavine getting a part time job, which involved him working on Monday nights, and thus he could no longer play., bringing us back to 13 again.

Then a phone call came tonight from a player wishing to play, but lo they were too highly rated for the 7 player Division 2; what a dilemma!? Or so it seemed until Richard McCart kindly agreed to play division 2 which left us back with a group of 6 and a group of 8, though slightly altered in consistency.

So Division 1 now looks like

No Name Feder Rtg Loc

1. Papadinis, Jim VIC 1787
2. Baron, Michael VIC 2336
3. Thomas, Brian QLD 1880
4. Pyke, Malcolm L VIC 2114
5. Skiotis, Pano VIC 2049
6. Kalisch, Thomas VIC 1857

and the remaining pairings for this group are now as below

Round 2

1 Thomas Kalisch 1857 [0] : Malcolm L Pyke 2114 [0]
2 Pano Skiotis 2049 [0] : Brian Thomas 1880 [1]
3 Jim Papadinis 1787 [1] : Michael Baron 2336 [1]

Round 3

1 Michael Baron 2336 [1] : Thomas Kalisch 1857 [0]
2 Brian Thomas 1880 [1] : Jim Papadinis 1787 [1]
3 Malcolm L Pyke 2114 [0] : Pano Skiotis 2049 [0]

Round 4

1 Thomas Kalisch 1857 [0] : Pano Skiotis 2049 [0]
2 Jim Papadinis 1787 [1] : Malcolm L Pyke 2114 [0]
3 Michael Baron 2336 [1] : Brian Thomas 1880 [1]

Round 5

1 Brian Thomas 1880 [1] : Thomas Kalisch 1857 [0]
2 Malcolm L Pyke 2114 [0] : Michael Baron 2336 [1]
3 Pano Skiotis 2049 [0] : Jim Papadinis 1787 [1]

Division 2 also now looks like

No Name Feder Rtg Loc

1. Kovacevic, Paul VIC 1662
2. McCart, Richard VIC 1754
3. McCart, Roger VIC 1550
4. Chmiel, Rad VIC 1703
5. Fry, Peter VIC 1755
6. Wyss, Felix VIC 1711
7. Cavezza, Paul
8. Anton, Sarah VIC 1451

And the lists of remaining pairings for this division

What about 0 next to Malcolm Pyke ;)? Also, I am curious how Mc Cart-Pyke game will be rated in this case as there is $4 rating fee per player/per tournament :)

Thats good... hopefully there will be no more changes ;) Even though i am still curious how to rate a game between two players who are playing in different tournaments...

Another interesting development that i am waiting to see is how "positional sacrifice" of McCart will affect the cross-table. Some of the possibilities are:

1) Thomas gets 1 point despite entering late :)
2) Game is being replayed and McCart-Pyke result is forgotten

Similar questions can be asked about tournament B:
If McCart gets 1 point to start with..whom will the point be against :)? In round robins every 1 has to be matched against somebody's zero.

Also, If Thomas enters late and gets 1 point/chance to replay his game, why should Sarah Anton (who entered the event before him) get a 0 on forfeight.

I am playing Papadinis tonight. Would be hilarious to get to the board to find say Mr Voon sitting opposite me instead of Papadinis. Actually MCC could patent "kinder-surprise" approach to running chess tournaments. Last tournament someone fresh entered the event after round 4 to ensure that nobody gets a bye...However after another 4 ppl or so withdrew...this became somehow insignificant :)

Actually, i think it was not easy to win...in fact may be it was a draw...
I still have a schoresheet..i may pubish the moves in the training section later on..(just too long a game to publish).
Btw, Domagoi, did you see a simpler plan to win..i think my plan h4-h5 was the only try as i was scared of his f pawn...but may be i was wrong.:hmm:

hmm, maybe i am wrong, but i thought that u could at one stage get ur king to e7 while his king is on g8.. then u r threating nf6+, and then move knight to g4 with check and checkmate on h6.. i was looking at something like that.. cos i thought u can stop the f pawn if it starts moving anytime..

As always what you hear is not true. My opponent made an illegal move (he was under check) and i pointed it out to him..then the clock had to be readjusted, so nothing controversial about it. We took some time to find a person knowledgable enough to change the time on the clocks though :)
