Serge Rubanraut who was awarded the lifetime title of Australian Master in 1976 by the Australian Chess Federation died at the weekend in Sydney.

I knew Serge for over 40 years.

He won the very strong 1976 Australian Championship which I directed in Sydney above Shaw, Kellner, Jamieson, Rogers, Hay, D.Parr, Koshnitsky etc.

He played in the 1976 Haifa Olympiad.

Since there was a reference to the late Serge's on and off the board performances, I believe that some stories from the Closed GM blog
are quite appropriate so I share here with a couple of my own personal reminiscences (*) of a great chess personality. Serge Rubanraut!

(*) at some later stage, I am off for a dive right now
