The dates on the CV website seem to be different.

Is any requirement on residency for these championships? Specifically, do you have to reside in Melbourne to play?

The Vic school term does not finish until the Friday so logic would suggest the U12 would be Sat and Sun with the U18 Mon to Thu.

Interesting question re egilibility to play. You would expect to need to be a Vic resident to hold a Vic state title however does that means interstate players are not able to play or just that they can only win the money not the trophy?

I notice that the entry fee for Vic Juniors are quite high...However, no mention of prizes.:hmm:

On a positive side, I believe Vic Open (adults event) has pretty good prize money this time

There is indeed an error in the dates on the website. The correct dates are
U12: 28, and 29 June
U18: 30 June, July 1, 2, and 3
Prize money and trophy details will be revealed shortly,
as will the eligibility rules.
As for the entry fees; well costs have gone up a bit since the eighties

Would have thought that the Vic Open would be better described as an "open" event. ie all comers, not just adults..:)

Very impressive Squad I think the only top Vic Junior Missing (I guess Dusan Stojic is no longer a junior as time flies fast :( ) is James Morris.

Now that we have done with the Vic Open. let us turn our attention again to 08 Vic Junior championships. Early bird entries are coming in well with a reminder that these entries will cut out June 20. A good opportunity for putting your entry in is at the Rookies Cup Sunday tournament at Canterbury Junior Chess this Sunday at 3 Rochester Road. Meanwhile have a look at the website who has entered so far. The rules are also on the website with prize money and trophies detailed.
As in the past in case of equal finishes, prize money is shared but titles are awarded on count back.

With one day to go till the finish of the early bird discounts prospective entrants just have time to download the entry form and post with the early bird discount fee to the address on the form. If this fails you have can visit the Box Hill Chess Club tomorrow night and enter there.

How many of said water bottles get left almost unused in the tournament after play finishes?

I hope the "other chat board" is not now the official organ of Chess Victoria :D (harking back to the postings a few years ago insisting that this BB (Chess Chat) is the official organ of the ACF)

Exelent publicist.

Yes there is a photo of me. The problem is that on a board I was watching one of the player's nana was talking in Hindustani.

I have spent today in bed with a cold. I only woke up a few minutes ago. So I will give the tournament a miss.

Whatever that means.
Not to worry Denis As far as I am aware CV has no official position on chat boards and you may remain Victoria's chief denigrator until it is time to go

I attended the prize giving. It went well. Marcus Raine provided prizes for the neatest scoresheet. I have one parent who is prepared to help with entering games. With luck we should be able provide some interesting games by the end of next week.
