these things called uni assignements,

aren't chess players allowed to take advantage of increments and get say a one day extension for every 10 pages they write? :P

Hi Cedric,

There is the facility to play your first round at Box Hill, on the Tuesday next week, according to their screeds, as posted here and elsewhere.

Maybe you could do that?

I will say that Box Hill is clashing with us......just a matter of perspective

Take care and God Bless, Macavity

PS Brian, Greg Gatto, as you know!

I'd do that, except Im not available on Tuesdays. Anyway, I don't think my Mum would be very pleased if I spend my whole 4 day weekend to play chess.

Let's hope they are all tuned in to the same station or else it could get quite cacophonic. ;)

Hi everyone,

Here is one more position, from the tournament, will post a couple of others as I recall them

2Q5/p4pkp/8/8/1PPb1p1q/P7/5PBP/4rR1K b - - 0 45

In this position, David Hacche overlooked that after 46...Qxf2 47. Qg4+ Kf6!!, that there would be no more useful checks and white loses; instead after 46...f3 47. Bh3 Rxf1+ 48.Bxf1 Qxf2 49. Qg4+ Kf8 50. Qc8+ Ke7 51. Qc7+ Kf8 a draw was agreed. This was not an easy thing to see, and was missed by many of the spectators, including myself, gulp, but was pointed out by James Morris,

from here, James pushed 44...e4 and after 45. fxe4 Rxe4+ 46. Kf1 Rxe1+ 47. Kxe1 Nf7 48. Kf2 Ne5 49. Kg2 Nxg4 50. Kf3 Nf6 51. Kxf4 Nxh5+ 52. Kf5 g5 and after that James went on to win

That is a great win by Justin Tan against Hamilton. Perhaps black's ...h6 was a move too late; I can only find trouble for black after 16.Qh4. But in any case the way white finished off the game quickly with Nd5! (and any capture clears the way for Nf5) was very neat indeed.

Sigh, i am getting home late so a bit tired to upload my games. Did have some interesting struggles though.

Game against Hacche was quite instructive (despite disappointing finish that was also very instructive and embarassing for me)

Out of other games played today- Skiotis-Morris appeared to be an interesting game.

Well done to Michael and all competitors.

James Morris has a good showing finishing several places up on his start position. Bodes well the the world youth/juniors.

Also Punala Kiripitige finished strongly after a tough start.

Congratulations, Michael Baron, that's a convincing victory.
Must say I also enjoyed reading the interview you gave some time ago now to JAK here on Chess Chat. Had not known your USSR connection before.
And sensational performance by the 8 year-old newcomer.
