The QLD teams starts this coming Sunday.

Does anyone know what teams have been nominated, what the make up of each team is, or the draw ?

cheers
Garrett.

Logan is definitely entering teams. Board order will depend on current rating.

I am hoping to find out some more info.

I am still awaiting confirmation of a couple of teams. The only division I could confirm (which I wont as still chasing a couple of matters), is under 2000.

Premier:

Logan
Gold Coast (will be confirming tonight if participating)

Under 2000:

Redcliffe
Bullwinkle
Brisbane

Under 1600:

Redcliffe
Logan
Bullwinkle
Brisbane
Churchie (will be confirming tonight if participating)

Under 1200:

Bardon Bishops A
Bardon Bishops B
QWCL??

Hello George,

Do you mind if we have a thread title change to 2008 State Library of Queensland/CAQ Interclub? The reason being is that we do have a major sponsor in State Library of Queensland and this forum is a 'large' outlet for the chess community in general.

Yes, he's #1 (aged 4), right hand side of my avatar.

(1) You think 138 all out is a really good score.
(2) You think Kevin Rudds son is heir to Australia.
(3) You think Wimbledon is only for foreign players.
(4) You can understand "The lorry carrying the sofa's ran up the sidewalk"
(5) You pack the 30+ for a holiday to New Zealand.
(6) You think speaking French makes you sound cool.

(2) 1 cringe out of 10

Both teams are out.

This means that the Premier Division will not be going ahead as there is only one team.

But would other teams mind if Logan joined an over-1600 division, if they were allowed to field full strength teams to match? It sends the wrong message to exclude a willing team because they are strong.

I think this is a great idea.

I am not our team captain but I certainly wouldn't mind.

A three team comp (in the U2000) is a bit of a toss.

Yeah, consider this an official proposal that an >1600 division be created with those four teams, who may field whoever they like. A member club of the CAQ should not be penalized for excessive skill.

Garrett
11-03-2008, 06:48 PM
I'm with you on this one Jono, although I am sure no-one wanted to penalise anyone.

Our team captain (John Alkin) had already emailed us and teed us up to be there by 10:45am Sunday.

I don't have his email addy at home and cannot access my work email from home but I could get in touch with him tomorrow to see what he thinks.

It means I'll play Solo and he will likely play you but I don't mind a whoppin.

I won't be online too much longer tonite but I'll check the thread again tomorrow morning.

Cheers

As agreed yesterday by the four team captains, only when the under 2000 teams are playing each other do the points count for the under 2000 divisional title.

When the three under 2000 teams play Logan, they can field over 2000 players if they wish.

So after one round in the under 2000:

Regarding the under 1200. With only two teams, there is a good chance that one or both Bardon teams will be joining the under 1600 division They will be trying to recruit a couple of over 1200 players who wanted to play for Bardon but couldn't because they were in the under 1200 division.

The two Bardon teams played each other for a 2-2 draw. That result will count if they join the under 1600 division as they would have been playing each other in the first round anyways.

I will add more information as it comes to hand. If Bardon joins the under 1600 division, I will post new draw once confirmation is received.

That's right. Humphreys played very well to win with a P up against a dogged defender like Solo who might have obtained enough compensation against most people. Klein was tricked, but it was a pretty Q sac by Stawski all the same.

Do you remember the moves in the Klein game ?

It looked like a Kan sicilian where white got a nice pawn wedged on e5 and black was a bit stiffled.

I didn't see the queen sac bit.

That's basically right. Black had to compromise his position with ... f5, which was taken ep. A position like the following was reached:

Klein – Stawski

2b3k1/5rpp/p3prn1/2Q5/2NpB3/P6P/1PP2qP1/R3R2K w - - 0 35

Black has desperately tried to obtain play, now at the cost of the B that could be taken with check. But White thought he could eliminate Black's N first with Bxg6 ....

Black has desperately tried to obtain play, now at the cost of the B that could be taken with check. But White thought he could eliminate Black's N first with Bxg6 ....That is a very nice queen sac.

good memory Jono. Just the queenside pawns a bit hard to remember as they played no part in proceedings.

Forgivable error though, your position leaves less weak squares.
