That will be an excellent start of the year for the Club! After all it is usually one of the strongest weekenders in Australia, as are all MCC tournaments!
Cheers and good luck!
I hope I can make it!

Thus, I assume the prize-money section may still be updated. Also, Please note that I am not MCC committee member - just posting it here cause this information is available already on the other website. However, I am in no way responsible for accuracy of the info above :hand: .

Yes!
Should be pretty good this one. Michael Baron , Sam Chow and Jason Tang all gained free entry from the ICC qualifyer. Numerous MCC members have expressed a willingness to play towards our new tournament organiser. We have taken a number of calls about the event at the club. Competitors can enter up to as late as 12.45 on Saturday.

Im hoping to see some of Chesschats Victorian membership at the event.

cheers Fg7

Sam Chow won the tournament with 6.5/7. Well done, Sam

10 (!) year-old Bobby Cheng finished outright 3d on 5/7 ahead of FM Jordan and Dragicevic:clap:

I am not surprised by this excellent result. Before moving to Melbourne, Bobby Cheng played for NZ in the Under 10 World Youth Championships in Turkey, and "produced one of the best ever results for New Zealand by finishing in a tie for third place out of a field of 156." Paul Spiller, in his report in Australasian Chess, Volume 6, No.1, Jan/Feb 2008, pg. 26, where more detail on his performance is given.

He beat me in this tournament...I felt I got out of the opening reasonably well but then he just rolled me...most interesting part was the post game analysis...his understanding of the position and what was required to make progress was very sophisticated, not to mention his quick and accurate tactical analysis...well done

ooOO thinks of promoting a match Michael vs Domagoj, methinks the conditions are ripe! :)
With no draws acceptable of course!
Cheers and good luck!

By the way Michael, can we have a round to round results, upsets, near misses etc report?
Despite the limited number of participants, it would be good to promote the tournament even after its conclusion, rather than leaving it passed completely unnoticed!
Cheers and good luck!

I agree it would be a good idea. Hopefully the tournament's arbiter will post it here soon.
