A reminder that this event (link above and below for flyer) is on this coming weekend.

I haven't heard anything about the likely field so presumably there are no big names coming - the field for 2006 (http://www.netspeed.com.au/ianandjan/IansPage/results/weekenders/2006Vikings.htm) is probably a good indication of what to expect.

Update - I am advised by a reliable source that IM George Xie will be playing.

An excellent turnout of 48 for the Vikings Weekender. Joint leaders on 3/3 are IM George Xie, Junta Ikeda, Johny Bolens and a mystery European player.

The tables should be up later tonight at the link below and chessexpress.

Interestingly the Romanian player Endre Ambrus is shown on the FIDE website as unrated yet back in April 2002 he appears to have been rated at 2402. From there it seems he lost 18 points in the October 2002 list.

Yes, this is also mentioned on chessexpress (http://chessexpress.blogspot.com/), which has a photo of Endre Ambrus.

Go Justin Tan. What a good score in that field...
p.s. Brian Jones, the data for the two Justin Tans is a bit confused on your site. I noticed this at the SIO, when the Justin Tan from Vic was a 300er, but now he's catching up thought I'd mention it! ;) :)

In fact he could have done even better. He was winning his Round 5 game but mistakenly simplified to a K+P v K ending which was a tempo short.

The Grand Prix site is now OK with the new Justin Tan!

But I think that it is the new experimental ratings presentation program at www.chessaustralia.com.au that is confused.

The old(er) man Justin Tan (22) of NSW is inactive.

Justin Tan of VIC is a junior and I saw him play in SIO and Malaysia earlier this year!

A good result too for Andrew Brown, one of the quiet achievers
