Thanks Boris. I've heard quite a few people say they're not too keen on the weekenders because they're either too expensive, too far to travel to repeatedly and because they take up the whole weekend. So I hope this helps - if it's a success we can repeat it. I'm also hoping to encourage some of the middle-level junoir players who aren't quite ready to be thrown in the deep end with the senoirs.

Hi Douglas and a great idea indeed.
I always wanted to come down and see you guys at the Croydon Club but I could not do so due to my restricted free time schedule, long distance, luck of public transport etc etc.
I am almost certain I will take this opportunity and come down, play and meet you all there.
Cheers and good luck!

That'd be great if you'd come. Shall I add you to the list of entrants? The new venue is rather convenient with regards to public transport.

I'm playing in the Elwood weekender if anyone is there and wants to contact me.

Nice idea. Hope it comes off a treat for you. I have a question, what are your proposed division prizes? Only asking as I may pinch the idea. :)

I'm planning on adding $10 from each paid entry into a prize pool for each division, with the following distribution per divison.

Paid 1st 2nd 3rd
1 5 5 0
2 10 5 5
3 15 10 5
4 20 10 10
5 25 15 10
6 30 20 10
7 35 20 15
8 40 25 15

Feel free to pinch the idea, I've heard quite a lot of people say "what a great idea" so it seems there is a demand.

Hi Douglas
Unexpected and sudden change of my rostered hours will not permit me to come down and play on Sunday... Nevertheless, I will pay my entry fee when I see you or other members of the Club next.
My sincere apologies to you, the other organisers as well as our fellow chessplayers.
Cheers and good luck!

No worries, of course you don't need to pay if you're not playing. Thanks for the notification. By the way, it's on Saturday (i.e. today), not Sunday.

The divisions were uneven due to some late arrivals.

Overall I feel the tournament was a success and hope to replay this one-day style at some point next year. I'm happy to hear any suggestions of how this experimental tournament style could be improved.
