Correct. Players who are members of other state associations don't have to pay CAQ membership, even in local club events that are going to be acf rated ;).

It is almost a certainty that an under 1000 division is going to be created, so some of the under 1000 players in the U1600 division will move to the new division.

Entries are limited to 80, with 56 having already been received. So those intending to enter, had better pay soon.

Interesting to see WGM Nutu-Gajic listed as an entrant; has she been active lately or is this her first tournament in ages?

Even while not actively playing she gave an enjoyable simul at HICC in about 2000 (Her score was +15ish=1-1.)

Interesting to see WGM Nutu-Gajic listed as an entrant; has she been active lately or is this her first tournament in ages?
I dont know, perhaps mangafranga can provide more information?

Reminder to those who are considering entering in any division. There are currently 75 entries. Numbers are limited to the first 80 paid entries due to size of Broadbeach SLSC.

Further information can be found here: http://www.kingsofchess.biz/

An acceptable secondary fact would be that Aaron Guthrie has decided to play in the tournament mentioned in this thread ;)

Will the Gunner be playing in SP? I dont see his name so far. If not playing, then at least an appearance. The venue is right on the beach.

if it does come to that it will be any two locals who haven't racked up huge travelling and accommodation costs and who won't mind withdrawing

i doubt though that anyone will be told to withdraw; anyway no guarantee everyone will front up

Hello Jason, there is a limit on entries of 80 due to venue size. Currently entries are at 79. Website is here: http://www.kingsofchess.biz/

You need to email contact Amir Karibasic at doors01@bigpond.net.au or amir@kingsofchess.biz. If you want to ring him instead: 0414 786 852

First 80 PAID are guaranteed a spot. Just saying you want your name put down will not be good enough. As I said earlier, you must pay to be guaranteed a spot.

Hello everyone,

Whatever the other final results were, it seems that Dejan Antic has won this years event with 6/7 ( the website says 6.5, but it also shows that he drew his last round also, and also drew in Round 4....)

In any case congratulations to Dejan, whom I have met, and seems like an all around nice guy

Take care and God Bless, Macavity

Lane going down to Dragicevic and Nakauchi in the same weekend is surprising, but also a good indication of the depth of Australian chess at the moment.

Was [Alex] only able to play one day?

Was [Alex] only able to play one day?If that was the case then why did he get a half point bye in round 5.
Also having forfeited round 6 why was he left in the draw for round 7.

If that was the case then why did he get a half point bye in round 5. Alex asked for one at the end of round 4 (the day before). Round 5 was first round of Day 2.

Also having forfeited round 6 why was he left in the draw for round 7.Unfortunately I hadnt realised that he had no shown for round six when I did the round seven pairings. No one had come up to me during round six and said that his opponent hadnt shown. I also didnt realise it. The result for round six had been written up by his opponent as 0:1 and so I didnt think anything more of it. I just thought doing the round seven pairings that I hadnt seen Alex.

When I become aware of his no show during round seven, I went back and changed the results of both rounds to forfeits as they were unplayed games.

I would rather see no further discussion on this matter as it will be before caq council in the next couple of days and so it is unfair to all to discuss it further.

Correct. Failed to show for rounds six and seven and failed to contact the arbiter. Second part maybe a little unfair at this stage as my mobile was off as I am in the playing hall ;)

Thanks guys. You know, I didn't even realise until Kevin mentioned that Gene is an FM.

I quite liked the 3 divisions. All 7 of my games were interesting (at least me me; Froelich and LY might have other ideas). Also, it's been a while since I have ridden the yoyo-like Swiss Rollercoaster - 1400, 2300, 1600, 2200 - since I've been in the top quarter of most draws lately.

PS Domagoj should have beaten Froelich in Rd3, which might have changed the landscape a fair bit.

Yes, the divisions are an excellent idea, if there are enough players. My first memories of tourneys in Wellingon were divisional tournaments. Most of the players wanted to play opponents of similar strength.

Amir is adding games to the website as there is a brilliancy prize to still be awarded in the next few days.

Some games are up already at www.kingsofchess.biz

A lot of players handed in scoresheets, so there will be 'plenty' of games.

Also, it is easier to send an sms from a phone box than a tool box :P

It is very likely that this tournament will be held on August 22/23 2008. This will mean that it is a week before the Bundaberg Open and so it will be possible for some to play in both tournaments if they wish.

Holding the tournament in August should mean that accommodation will be cheaper.

Also, anyone interested to see me get crushed for deciding to play the Czech Benoni for the first time in about 10 years against an IM will find it here (http://http://www.kingsofchess.biz/games1.html). I am assuming that Froelich submitted it for the brilliancy prize. He found a nice finish, although as the commentators might have said, all roads led to Rome at that point.

Interesting exchange sac. I wonder whether White shouldn't have just taken on b5. Although it cedes a centre pawn in return, White gains quick development, e.g. Sarfati–Bennett, Au 1999 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1450843), and the same sort of thing against the same opponent with reversed colours ("http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1450817) in NZ 1995. But defending the P can't have been too bad, although Bd3 was more flexible.
