National federations in the FIDE Asian region (including Australia) have been invited to nominate players to take part in the 6th Asian Individual Championship, to be played between 18 and 30 September 2007 at the Cebu International Convention Center in Cebu City, Philippines.

The top 10 players will qualify for the 2007 FIDE World Cup. Cash prizes total $US40,000.

Rules and Regulations of the event and other details are displayed on the FIDE web site at http://www.fide.com/news.asp?id=1416

According to the organisers, there are direct international flights from around Southeast Asia to Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines. The newly constructed Cebu International Convention Center was the venue of the recent ASEAN Summit among the heads of state and is ideal for the Championship.

Any Australian player wishing to apply for selection as Australia's nominated representative should email me (k_bonham@tassie.net.au) expressing interest. A formal deadline has not yet been set but is likely to be within two weeks. Due to the short notice, at this stage a formal detailed application is not required - if it becomes required applicants will be advised.

Please feel free (indeed encouraged!) to forward this to anyone who may be interested in applying.
