It is on this weekend. Don't forget to be there, already 35 have nominated to play. Great chance to escape to the country and get some good chess in while you are at it..

This is a list of people that I am reasonably sure of seeing there, but as I keep emphasising, until I see them sitting there for round one, it is not a final list. :)

That will be good, another strong 1400 to give these 2000 players a fright :)
Have another 2000+ for you to take aim at: David Castor 2042
The local champ, Fritz Van der Wal, is in there at Nr 6 seed, with Dubbo's best, Trevor Bemrose, at 7th seed. There may be a little City v Country aggro yet :)

I don't think there will be any aggro mate. Some of the city players live within a stones throw of the Hawkesbury river!

At this rate you might get a couple of Victorian players for the 2nd Blayney Openů we were looking at the map last night. Hope it all goes well and congratulations! :)

Actually throwing stones in the river is a quintessential country practice. When I lived in Dubbo during WW2, throwing stones, either skipping them over the surface or aiming at floating paddy melons, was about all there was to do.

Someone with more expertise than I may like to copy them to here for me. For now, you can view the first 3 rounds draws/results with the round 4 draw there for the morning's action.
Round One went according to ratings, Round 2 had some upsets, including a biggy, 1400 beating a 2000+, and Garry Mann scored a minor upset, holding Trevor Bemrose to a draw.
Round 3 Garry Mann scored a good win over Slavko Kojic to finish the day on 2.5/3 but faces Brian Jones in the morning in what will be his toughest test to date. But don't rule out these Blayney kids ;)
Other results were pretty much to rule, with perhaps Evan Stroeve surprising with a strong draw against John Cooper. Fritz Van der Wal was doing real well against tournament top seed Lee Jones, until he got into time pressure and made some errors that allowed Lee to secure another strong win.
We start Sunday morning with 3 co-leaders, Lee Jones, Peter Abbott (They face off in Rd 4) and David Castor, with Trevor Bemrose and Garry Mann hot on their tails on 2.5. Should be an interesting day of chess. Looking forward to it immensely.

The inaugural 2007 Blayney Open was well attended with 34 players. The history making winner of the event is Lee Jones, who sets a tough standard for those to follow with a 6/6 from performance. David Castor was a worthy 2nd with 5/6 just edging Fritz Van der Wal who secured 3rd place with 4.5/6.
The U1600 division was a little tighter, with 2 players tieing for 1st, Gary Losh and Slavko Kojic were the winners, with John Ager, Bill Egan, and Garry Mann in equal 3rd.
In the U1200 things were even more difficult to sort out, in the end we settled for 5 equal firsts, combined their prizemoney with the unrated prize and handed out equal amounts to Helen Aylwin, John Cooper, Evan Stroeve, Ramon Aich and David Pisani.
Garry Mann was awarded the Best Junior prize. Best Local Player was won by Rod McPhee. The Lucky draw recipients were, Sandy Aich (Visitor's Car Care Kit), Brian Patten (Local's Glass Fruit Bowl), and Jason McKinnon (Junior Book Prize - Reassess Your Chess).
Everyone was complimentary on the venue and the manner in which the event was run, the Bowling Club were impressed with the event, we survived :) We may even think about doing it again next year :)
Don't panic, it will definitely be on, just don't ask about it for a month or so, I think that I and the family won't want to think about a chess tournament for at least that long :)
