I enjoyed playing through that and digesting the pro-activeness. Must remember!

One for Amiel:

Rd 4:
IM Lane, Gary W. 1 - 0 IM Oliver Dimakiling

Followed by rd 5:
IM Barlo A Nadera ˝ - ˝ IM Lane, Gary W.

Mixed results for the other Aussies. WGM Li Ruofan is in the lead after beating GM Chandler and IM Mas.

Great win for Laura in round 1.

It looks like the IM overlooked or underestimated the piece sacrifice because 28.Rh4 is safer than what was played. Not that white has much to write home about anyway.

The IM did seem to be back into it a bit after 31...Rab4 (...Rxe4 looks very hard for white to survive) but didn't stay there for long as after 35.Qc2? instead of say 35.Qd2 he just got totally outplayed by a material balance (QP for RR) that isn't always easy to win with; a passed pawn certainly helps but Laura made it look way too easy.

Gary Lane beats GM Chandler to go to 4.5/6!!

And Laura continues her good form, beating Chris Wallis to go to 3.5.

A chance of a GM norm for Lane. He needs at least one GM in the last two rounds, and will need to finish with at least 2/3 (possibly 2.5 if he doesn't have quite high rated opponents).
