Vote for the best Chesskit avatar.. I judged the top 9 myself, so humblest apologies to those who didn't make the cut. I am stipulating that you can't vote for yourself. Thanks.

Reasons for elimination from my vote for best AVATAR.

Arosar...I had to ask
Barry...looks angry and I don't think he is
Bill...spoilt by the foreign language
BD...hidden from me
eclectic...has he incorrectly posted the mirror image?
jenni..intimidates
Matthew..can't win as he is banned
Other..have not seen him/her post ;)

So that leaves Kevin, whose avatar has a nice derivative from board (bored?) activity.
OK. I vote for Kevin

Not bollywood, but close. He started acting around 50 years back. He is very popular in India... So popular that there has been a few temples built for him, he even has a honorary doctorate, and he was CM for his state. All this, even though he dropped out of school after 5th grade.... Enough clues!! :p

Try these:

An AVATAR is an AVATAR is an AVATAR.
But a best post, that is a personal expression.

You told us to stop whinging, and we have.

We don't believe you can engineer a prize for best AVATAR.

or else one of the admins has to give you the green light (as a formality)

However its a batch process that updates your custom title, so it may take up to 24 hours to get the option. I see you have over 200 posts, so I have already manually executed the process after reading your PM.

 But it lacks imagination. It is archtypical example of an exhausted postmodern mentality. Wear the name, be the brand, buy the hype.

An avatar should reflect something of the person. However, a frequent changing of avatars might indicate a fickle disposition born of self-centered malcontent.

And keeping avatars for a long time means the individual is rigid, close-minded and resistant to change? I think you can read too far into some things.

I think Jeo's Gollum is a cool picture. Now we have a complete LOTR theme for Admins. Interesting to note we may have a moderator 'theme of animals' too, Barry (Penguin) Kevin (Goose) and jenni (Hyena). What do you think this says about moderators Matt?

There is something particulary tragic about adults involving themselves in the fads childrens movies. It is saddening to think that these types of people are presenting a visible front for Australian chess. Is it any wonder that ches is "known" to be the Middle Earth of Geek-Loserdom. :hmm:

Just thought I'd point out that Shinseiki Evangelion is as far from "made for children" as animé can get without becoming pornographic.

Often people change their avatars frequently because for these people they are not (as many insist) a "reflection" of their own nature. Sometimes people choose avatars based solely on what "looks good" without considering what they want the avatar to mean. On this forum my username is "Gandalf" because to me the name has meaning beyond what is attributed to it in the films (the book is much deeper). My avatar is consistent with the name. If I wanted, I could change my username...but that would confuse a lot of people (as Jeo did earlier this year). Maybe I'll feel like changing later on, but for now I have no problems being a nameless, faceless consumer who happens to idolise a fictional greybeard.

At least, that's all you can see of me. ;)

Like a lot of anime Evangelion main character (I'm talking about Shinji) is an adolescent. However there are many other major characters who are not and many of the themes and character are complex and certainly not kiddy-fare IMHO. It's not pornographic but there are many scenes with sexual overtones, like when Shinji drops off Rei's new identity card. :hand:

Have you ever seen Love Hina, Barry? I think that would be my favourite anime. The same formula is seen throughout many animes..

1/ boy slips over
2/ hand falls on girl's breast
3/ boy gets slammed into the distance
4/ :D

Except in Rei's case she's just strange and goes... please get off.

Now that is below the belt. I try hard retain my position as the stupid juvenile who's mind perminantly resides in the revolution.

... broadening your horizons a little more instead of spewing your fallacious stereotypical labelling of enjoyable entertainment.

What may entertain you may well be LOTR flicks and other pedestrian cinamatic offerings for the people who eat McDonalds and wear Nike. However, I seek better entertainment to do within 3 hours and $12 x 3 episodes. Maybe a play or book or a bottle of absinth.

I am resurrecting an old thread as this seemed the best place to put this. I had been puzzled about Rincewind's avatar saying "Reader in Slood Dynamics". Puzzled no more! Pratchett's Rincewind was a Professor in Slood Dynamics. Wikipedia has this to say about that: "One of Rincewind's surfeit of academic titles.
As slood has, against all the odds, escaped detection on the Discworld, this is a relatively easy academic title to have, requiring, at the current level of understanding, remarkably little actual work or research."

Reader in Slood Dynamics is quite an apt title as being a senior lecturer in Applied Maths, no doubt Barry teaches dynamics.

Later followed by a sacred kingfisher, the dingo from the cover of the Church's album "Priest=Aura", a golden cockroach from the Tasmanian central plateau and Fuji the cat before the present one. Not sure if I have forgotten any. Have given some thought to changing mine to a picture of Matthew Sweeney with horns or antlers on his head, except that might improve his appearance.
