All the best Howard.
I'm on different timezone for the next week (vietnam and Singapore) - so the start might be a bit slow.

GL to you too. Asia? You might run into my brother  Anyway, here's some Scandinavian flavour to keep it global.

I think I might have met your brother - does he have dark hair ?

*LOL* I confess to a momentary twitch in my hand as I went for the mouse to reply. He's actually in Taiwan. Now what's this rubbish you're playing? Did you miss my move or Nf3 this a thing?

I learned a lot about life and people from Doris Stokes.

It gets harder every day to find something that's not in the book.

1. OK, I'll maintain the scorecard ;)
2. There's a book!?
3. Who in God's name is Doris Stokes?

1. Message received.
2. It is probably an MP3 by now - but it use to be a book
3. Doris Stokes was a British TV clairvoyant in the 1970s - she would amaze people by making broad statement and then narrowing in depending on their response.

I've taken the liberty of resorting to cheating by re-writing your moves. However I am an honest cheat and feel compelled to tell you I changed your Nc6 to Nc3. Besides I thought he might get a hernia so early in the game.

There was something in the rules about your rooks and queen bishops - but I don't think it applied to to the king knight. Might be worth checking at this point though.

1-0 GG Well played.
Was your opening a thing or were you just messin' with a patzer!? I'd really like to do that again one day 'cause I reckon it's as 'orrible as Axiom's possum!

Thanks for the game Howard - we are now even.
I've got a lot of offbeat openings - but nothing that is really my thing.
I've always be good at spotting and avoiding prepared lines - but never committed enough to prepare anything in detail myself.
You'll get chances in most games no matter what the opening is.
In this type of game the critical moves come early - this time it was your move 8.

By 'thing', I meant is it a known opening (albeit off-beat) or were you just making it up as you went along?
Yes, move was bad and you were good enough to punish - so full credit.

I'm pretty sure it is an accepted opening - so yes it is "thing".

I've put the opening through HIARCS (analysis from black's perspective on 20 secs a move).
I says white is not good at all.
After move 4, black is +1.2 or so although it preferred 4... Qd4 two moves later
After move 7, ... e3 would have had black +1.6
I confess to stopping the analysis shortly thereafter as I didn't want to see how far the score dropped - but I have a fair idea :uhoh:
1. e4 d5 2. Nf3 dxe4 3. Ng5 Nf6 { 0.00 3... Bf5 } 4. Nc3 Bf5 { +1.22 4... Qd4 }
5. Bc4 e6 6. f3 Qd4 7. Qe2 Nc6 { +1.67 7... e3 } 8. Ncxe4 Nd5 { +1.30 8... Ne5
} 9. c3 Qb6

I'm not sure I follow all of what you are saying - but I agree 7 .... e3 was a strong move which forces Ne4.
Are you saying that your position is still better after 8 .... Nd5 , because I find that hard to believe.
If you are also saying that I was a pawn down in a sharp position - well that was the idea.
I am assuming HIARCS suppose to be the final word on the subject - but what strength is it on 20 secs a move ?
