Philidors with an early ...f5 is dodgy IMO, but then again I think the Philidors at all is pretty shaky for most club level players, fullstop! :D White should have played 4.d4 (this position via a different move order is given as +/- in Nunn's Chess Openings) and White should definitely not have played 5.Bxg8? which just loses a pawn - your response to this move was absolutely correct.

White made an even bigger blunder 10.Bd2?? and at that point is dead lost and remains so for the rest of the game; you played sensibly getting queens off and so on and did not give White any chances.

For your rating (especially for an internet rating) you played well, but White did most of the damage to themselves. Until I saw the ratings I would have said "get a stronger opponent"; probably not a bad idea anyway. (By the way I reckon players learn more from playing players 200-300 points stronger than from playing against their own rating.)

I think we should be pedantic and only allow people to post on a thread with this title if they promise never to play chess again!! :owned: :owned: :owned:

:D Open a thread in general titled how to title posts or something.

Thanks Kevin
I was playing on fics and over there you basicly take any rating you can get (if you play often).
I hate playing philidors on black, i usually kill it when I'm white. As a matter of fact I was googling for an alternative when I came across this site.
My problem is if I answer kings pawn opening with e5 I'm basically forced into it. and I like d5 and f5 even less. Any suggestions?

Not at all, 2...Nc6 and 2...Nf6 are both fine although ...Nc6 is a lot of work because of the depth of theory in the Lopez, Scotch and others and a lot of 2...Nf6 (Petroffs) lines can be pretty dull to play.

I'm biased here. I'd better not say anything. :)

OK, the serious contenders as replies to 1.e4 are ...e5, ...e6, ...d5, ...d6/g6 (1...d6 and 1...g6 lines tend to transpose into each other), ...c5, ...c6,...Nf6. ...Nc6 and ...b6 are OK if you know exactly what you're doing, anything else is best avoided.

If you are choosing the philidor, then playing the petroff wont be much of a difference in terms of 'boringness'.
