The Kagans are pretty much retired from chess....pity.
Geoff Hilliard and Ken Holt still play...mainly weekenders though.
Sirota...Goldenberg and Michael Baron should have some idea.
Grant Szuveges hasnt played for at least 5 years . Has spent a fair amount of time overseas as well.
Mark Chapman...I have heard he plays on ICC a fair amount these days.
The SA posters like Freddy[Scott Colliver] and AES should know more.

Give yourself some years. Then you will both, understand the above, and might even be able to make an intelligent contribution to L.Plonkers.

The way this thread's shaping up, searching for missing (or mislaid) players we we're gunna have to think of it as a wherehouse

Anybody know what happened to Kim and Mitch Jones who played during the 70s?

I think they played for the Bexley Club and Kim won a City of Sydney U1600 around 1974.

Being resourceful and astute, I can solve one problem of missing chess players.

There were a number of chain smokers who woodpushed at a club called Bayside in SE Melbourne. I assure you that the smoke produced by these knights of nicotine was so noxious that most Bayside CC smokers no longer play chess. That is unless chess can be played horizontally in a box, in an urn of cremation, or six feet under the ground, for then these warriors of weed might still be pushing wood across the squares.

So if you are looking for anyone who played at Bayside you are wasting your time unless you look in mortuaries.

Naum's son...which makes him Michael Kagan snr.
For those of you who dont know, Michael Kagan jnr is Issay's son.
Issay is Naum's brother.

This is thread suggests that there is a sense of chess community and that's surely a good thing.

The last I remember of Jaske was that she played at Frankston CC but that was about ten years ago. I don't know any of the other names.

I have heard several versions of why Gluzman left, some in confidence, so I better not reveal.

I have heard (major hearsay so this may no have truth to it whatsoever) that Naum Kagam was trying to establish an elite chess training academy in Melbourne but it did not get off the ground so he eventually left the chess scene altogether.

I believe that Mark Chapman is semi-retired. Hopefully we south australians can get him to come out of the woodwork and play a little. He played at the Glenelg rapid this year, and won it so I guess that there is some hope he will return.

Sirota...Goldenberg and Michael Baron should have some idea.
We were fortunate to be invited to dinner at Sirota and his wife's home about a month ago. A very enjoyable night.
He's a very strong correspondence player these days. I don't want to jinx him but he appears to be on the verge of becoming world email champion... which would be a huge achievement.

This is at IECG I assume?
That's great that Sirota is doing so well but I note that the top rated Aussie is Kerr at 2636, is he doing any good there??

According to the Fide website he does not have a title.

Naum Levin was NSW State Champion in 1981, NSW State Lightning Champion in 1982 and joint City of Sydney Champion (with Flatow and Fuller) in 1981.

Whoops, I misread AC's post, thought for some reason he was referring to FIDE titles.

Hi Gareth,

Thanx for the help on the blitz games the other night :)
After drinking all that cordial I certainly needed it!

To the best of my knowledge Levin has two titles.

"Senior Soviet Master" and I think the other is "Senior Soviet Trainer"

He immigrated to Australia almost 30 years ago.
Here is the first game he lost :)

Hi Jeff,

Kerr is not playing in anything at IECG at the moment.
He is too busy at ICCF!
http://www.iccf-webchess.com/PlayerDetails.aspx?id=30428

But he has qualified for next year's IECG World Cup Final which he will probably play in :)

Just came across this on TCCMB.

Anatoli Sirota (AUS) is the new IECG Champion.

Mr. Sirota who won his title in WC-2003-F-00001, where he lost no games and finished the tournament with 9/14.

David Lafarga (POR) came in second with a score of 9/14.

You may view the the tournament crosstable, play through all 105 games, and download all 105 games at the following http://www.iecg.org/wc2003/table.htm
