There seem to be plenty of Poker Websites that allow players to play for real money.

Are there any chess servers (other than playchess) where it is possible to play for small (or not so small) stakes?:hmm:

There is a such a site- called moneygaming.com I've just been told. The only problem is that there never seems to be anyone wanting to play for money in chess- chess part seems to be dead. Plus they don't make any mention of the problem of people using computers...
Guy's never got a game there. A slow, rather crappy site.
He's just checking now to see whether there's any sign of life. Wow, there's ONE player! Ah, that would be him... ;)

You can play for money on Playchess. Their currency is DUCATS.
ICC's currency is CHEKELS, and I believe it is possible to play for money there also.

Another thought (probably a bit off the topic ) would not it be nice to have a chess cafe (like the ones in Amsterdam and Paris) where chess players can meet over coffee, play some blitz for small stakes and socialise:hmm:

Hello Michael and Wattoo...

Noone want to play money in chess ? I don't think so... Some players ask me on FICGS when it will be possible to enter money tournaments.. and I was looking for such a website myself...

It should be possible in a few months on FICGS correspondence chess server (http://www.ficgs.com)

Best wishes.

Please excuse any suggestion of knobbiness, but

I owned and operated such a café [although its scope was much broader than that] in Brisbane between 1996-2003. Similar chess themed cafes exist elsewhere in Australia.

Past CAQ Coaching Director, Halim Natapriwara operates a dedicated chess cafe in West End, Brisbane.

I've always like the idea of a Chess Cafe. Some places like New York City, New Orleans or Cleveland might work out. A few games with wagers, coffee, doughnuts, might work.

Was that on the corner of Brunswick and Ann (the name escapes me atm)?

Nice work!

Very tempted to hand over the illusive $100 HCD's there, but that would be self serving. But, yes that was it. It was called Café Scene, a promotional cafe of the newspaper I publish.

I'll dig up a photo or 3 - I think there's even a pic of me 10 years ago - giggle material.

That's right I remember now. Many a Friday night spent drinking coffee and the occasional sandwich. I think you had a few PCs out the back at one point too. Perhaps we even brushed shoulders once or twice.

PC's! Macs thank you. I haven't owned a PC for 20 years, and I doubt I will again. Anything that requires Windows is more deserving of the holes in which many of you wish to dump Johhny.

Damn. Small world - not to mention time-warp continuum :)

Are you still in Brisbane?

Ahh, but Windows is already taking over as the Mac OS. What will you do then? :hmm:

Yeah, still in Brisbane. I believe 3 Monkeys in West End is the place to be now, but haven't been there for years either.

OK, Boris - Happy memories:

In its original location. 1996. Before any of many exterior changes.

That's me on the left. Bald. Gaunt. Prior to wife!

The new location, in the Valley Mall - 50 metres up the road.

8 years later. I'm the follically challenged one! Melbourne office, 2004.
