The direction that the thread has headed has got me thinking ...
Are there any other sports/games where you can finish tied for 33rd and receive a prize of $300 (or roughly 6x entry)?
None immediately spring to mind ...

The above quote from Kerry appeared on the 'siblings pairing' thread.

The literalist in me makes me want to answer with at least two examples;
> the Australian OPEN golf tournament
>> the Australian OPEN tennis tournament.

But then the super-literalist took over and I wondered if Kerry meant exactly $300, or more than $300.

Anyhow, I anticipate that there is in fact a good fundamental question in the thought behind Kerry's post.

I think I might wait to see if he comments.

yours, musing,

Cycling (road). In handicap events - which are quite common in Australia - riders start the same race at different times, such that they are all likely to finish at the same time. The slower the rider, the greater the head start. The rider with the fastest time, usually a rider starting last, can come in, say 90th out 100 competitors to win "Fastest Time."
