Hi Nigel

2.Nc3

By the way, I now have series 1 of the WPT on DVD

Cool. Have you noticed the plethora of cheap "knock offs" of WPT merchandise that have hit the shelves in the last couple of months? (Then again, how much will someone pay for a bit of green felt, 2 decks of cards and some plastic chips? )

Indeed ... its a shame!

Poker is interesting if played with Spanish card decks, (the suits being Coins, Swords, Cups, Clubs)... the probabilities being skewed somewhat from the "normal" English decks by the lack of the Queen as a face card (ie only 12 cards per suit). :)

You mean its not the lack of the 10? I thought that Pontoon was played with a Spanish deck ...

Actually, having a good look at one of my Fournier© packs (sent to me from Spain from an online friend), numbers are printed on the "face" cards. Number 10 is a picture of some male ponce in pantaloons, 11 is yet another male ponce on a horse (a prince perhaps?), and 12 is the King. (This style of deck is also popular in Italy).

Of course if the numbers weren't printed on the face cards, this would look like 9 'number' cards, and 3 'face' cards. (Therefore leading to the conclusion that the number card "10" is missing).

I erroneously referred to the suit "Staves" as "Clubs", confusing them with the suit from the English deck. Perhaps this was influenced by the the "Staves" depicted on the Spanish cards looking like the sort of club that a Neanderthal might wield! (Adding a few pimples and craters to the club!)

It wouldn't suprise me if Pontoon/21/Blackjack was played with a deck of Spanish cards.

Would this give the gambler less of a chance of winning over the dealer? (ie four less cards in the deck, the missing cards all valued 10?)

Of course any game a casino runs has to have a house edge ... although I must admit to being ignorant of the actual Spanish decks.

I actually used to use them to play "Cripple Mr Onion" which required 8 suits, or at least 2 vastly different decks. The "Iraqi most wanted" playing cards were also used for this purpose. (The Ace of Spades has been in the news lately at his trial. )

I would love for my invisibility to be returned for this thread. It would mean I could watch this thread and you wouldnt know ;)

I suspect you meant that you would like my access removed from this thread  not so keen on that idea :P

Hi GG, I was actually trying to jokingly suggest that you refrain from commenting in this particular thread, which would, thereby, grant you your "invisibility" back. :)

However, I fear my wish to fulfill your wish has backfired uponst me!

I can now, no longer, find my remote control! So it would seem that my remote control has been granted your previous ability of invisibility!
