Having lived in the Carlton Crest (both the Carlton tower and the Crest tower) for 5 months in 2002...
I say that this one of the better hotels in Brisbane. Central location with easy walk to shopping mall, cinemas, casino, gyms, Southbank, internet cafes etc... and Picasso always has nice fare...

Some of their rooms are good, but some of them are very stuffy. Their doubles/twin are much better than their singles. If your looking for accomdation in the same price range as the explorers inn I would recommend the YMCA hotel which is just around the corner from the explorers inn.Better service and all their types of rooms are good value for money. Both hotels are within a five minute walk of the Carlton crest hotel. ;)

Yes. Hotel George Williams.
When I was talking about singles I meant to say the type of room they give you.Its a twin room, usually one of their rooms with no windows.I stayed in one of those rooms during spring time,it was pretty stuffy then. Can only imagine what its like in summer......

Didn't airconditioner help?

Igor, the air conditioner I had in my room at the Explorer Inn was terrible. It produced a bad smell as though it was clearing out dust or something.
I didnt have this problem at the Hotel George Williams, the air conditioner was stronger and cleaner. ;)

Thank you, 442
I wasn't sure whether to stay at Explorers Inn or HGW. The price is $79 vs $100 per night, the difference accumulates to about $300 over two weeks.
However, when I called HGW (you can only book 10 days over the net, I needed 14), they offerd me a "long-stay rate" $85 per day. Compare to standard $100 rate the saving is over $200, and the difference in price to Explorers Inn is insignificant.
HGW seems a very good value for money (normal hotel quality for very reasonable price)
