I don't think its primarily Russian girls who suffer from what I describe as "Princess Syndrome".

Hi from Delphi Oracle

Now I am preparing for trips to Gosford for chess and a nice break at the NSW Central Coast.
I might spend some time in Sydney too, since it's like 2 years since I haven't been there.
Then Tassie for a chess tournament at Launceston and some other places around (I haven't decided yet)
Then around New Year's time up to Queensland for a rest before the Aus Open at Brissy.
Right after that a couple of weeks in New Zealand, not for the zonal though, I am not going to spend time for chess
when in another paradise on Earth! :P :)

Twenty months since I was in Sydney last time, almost two years since I spent some time at NSW central, and south coasts! that's a long time! There's a slight chance I 'll drop in
at Rooty Hill to see you guys at the club when in Sydney!

Still at the Rooty Hill RSL, Sherbrooke St, yeah?

a typically melodious, emotional and nostalgic Russian ballad. However, I think that captain Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse would have taken offense by the young Baron's imagination! :P :)
BTW here's a related SBS La Perouse story ranging from interesting to utterly ridiculous! :)

http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2012/11/29/la-perouses-unknown-historical-significance

When in Sydney I always take the bus and spend some time in La Perouse... There are some great seafood restaurants and a lovely park on the other side of the little peninsula!

BTW a beautiful little beach area, (relatively non/expensive until very recently) is Little Bay. NSW Govt offered blocks of land there for as little as $27K with the precondition
that you had to build in less than three years from the date of purchase!

Sigh, wish someone offered me land at this price here in Melbourne now...you can only imagine how many blocks I would aim to buy...
By the way it was not imagination only..La Perouse was in Russia...according to the song's lyrics :)

The following is only a sample of what they want apart from passport, personal details etc.

Name of two most recent educational institutions complete with addresses and phone numbers

Study courses

Your mother's full name

That's not including cases of former USSR or Russian citizens. For them there's another set of questions.

Here's a link of visa obtaining requirements if you are interested;

https://russiau.com/getting-russian-visa-australia/

The cost for the application will be about AUS $ 130 if you can wait 10 days or thereabouts, or about AUS 250 if you want a faster procedure!

Well, believe it or not I refused to be angry, I just fell sad because I had made other plans and dreams. I was lucky that I had bought no flight
tickets to go to Russia. I was going to do that from Europe. (cheaper tickets and more flexible times)

I only told them politely that in the USSR years ago things weren't that complicated only to be told also very politely if I had anymore questions.

Well, regardless of all this, my respect and admiration for Russian culture, history and of course chess won't be affected.

I have talked with friends about this.

Their opinions vary.

До свидания моя любимая Россия, визовые препоны может быть непреодолимым, но ничто не может остановить мои мечты о тебе!

I will simply rearrange my travelling schedule this coming European summer!

We recently invited my parents-in-law to visit us here in Sydney. Both have visited Australia before - so presumably did not have a risk of overstaying here. We also signed the statutory declaration promising to cover any expenses if necessary.

At the end our experience was not easy at all. Even though we applied 45 days before the flight day, we had to change the flight date as visa did not arrive on time. We also had to fill in multiple forms which required more detailed info than what is mentioned above. Imagine 70 year old is being asked all the details of his parents, brothers and sisters, etc.

I absolutely sympathise! I also strongly believe that application of extensive visa bureaucracy sometimes depends on international spates and counter - spates!

Ok last 10 days in Aus will be very busy.

This Sunday rapid Chess at the Artists.

then Arbiters seminar - not that I am interested to do any directing or whatever, just to learn a few tricky things about the rules.

Then last details of preparation for my trip.

Then the longish European summer holiday.

Back mid September.
