Description:
We are pleased to announce that we are holding a FIDE rated U20 Chess Festival over the end of the first and second weeks of the December school holidays. This tournament is open to all U20 players, i.e. the player does not need to be a Churchie student.

This festival of chess kicks off a Blitz tournament on Friday the 10th of December, from 10am to 2pm. We shall hold an optional pre-tournament tactics and strategy lesson from 7:30am on the morning of the tournament, to allow players to arrive early to the tournament.

This week-long 7 round Swiss pairing tournament has a time control of 60|30, with a Rapid tournament held within it on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 2pm each day. The optional pre-tournament tactics and strategy lessons shall also be available every day during this week for players needing an early drop-off. All of these tournaments are of course FIDE, ACF and QJ rated. Further details of the regulations for all the tournaments can be found here: https://churchiechessfestival.aunz.net/regulations-for-the-churchie-chess-festival-tournaments-2021

For each of the three tournaments, there is an offering to hire an electronic DGT board for all of the games within each tournament, which means that analysis can be easily conducted on these games as the PGNs are readily available for the user.

A canteen shall be open each day that the tournaments operate, but we advise that players bring their own snacks and lunch.

Going to be rather interesting if Qld hits the 80% double-dose vaccination rate before December 17 for this event?

With Queensland potentially opening their border in the next couple of days at 80% double vaccination rates, we are hopeful that interstate players will be able to play in this event too.

Qld will open its borders from next Monday, with the 80% fully vaccinated target expected to be reached this week. That also means that players over 16 will likely be required to be fully vaccinated, and even visitors over 16 may need at least one vaccination.

QLD Govt advice states that restrictions will apply from the 17th December.

https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19/current-status/queensland-restrictions-update/public-health-and-social-measures-linked-to-vaccination-statusDecember 17 is definitely the critical date - I didn't mean to imply that they would apply immediately Qld reaches the 80% mark.

However I believe that the restrictions will apply on December 17 itself (from the above link): "These changes will commence on 17 December 2021, regardless of when 80% of Queenslanders aged 16 and over are fully vaccinated."

I work in schools, and I've received emails from them stating that at least one vaccination is required by December 17, which is consistent with the restrictions starting on December 17, and therefore applying to this event. Which is why I'm posting on this thread.

We finished testing the scripts linking the DGT boards to the " Churchie ACE System" - https://ccf.aunz.net/

To sweeten the deal Livechess is adding our "Database Secrets" lessons for anyone using the ACE System - this includes an open source chess database plus 1.3 million games.
