1D Chess is a variant of chess that is played along a single file, on the board shown below the a-file.
The pieces cannot move off the a-file.
The king moves as in normal chess, 1 space at a time.
The rook moves as in normal chess, as far as it can along the file.
The knight jumps exactly 2 squares.
Other rules of the game are the same - checkmate, stalemate etc.
With best play, what is the result? What is the longest game with best play?
To get you started, white has exactly 4 moves s/he can make from the starting position. 1.Na4, 1.Ra4, 1.Ra5, or 1.Rxa6.
