Players can join the Launceston Club on the day ($10 for players already registered with the TCA). Entry is only $10 for Seniors ($5 for Juniors).

The prize pool is $500 (thanks to generous sponsorship of the event by LCC).

I've accepted an invitation to do DOP duty. You don't need to register online to play, but it will make my job a bit easier if you do. Players can either pay online or via 'cash on the day' (before 10.45, Saturday December 5).

I've entered, look forward to donating back the rating points I gained at the Launcestion Cup! If I read correctly a non-Launceston club member who is a TCA member can enter for $20 (if senior) or $15 (if junior)

Enjoyable tournament and nice introduction to chess in Tasmania. Congratulations to Eddy for his win in the tournament and against me and thanks to Denis and the friendly people at the Launcestion Chess Club!

Thanks for your kind words, Paul; and thanks to Launceston for their generosity of spirit. They gave back much more than they took in!

Congratulations to Eddy. The ranked crosstable includes performance ratings (using Pappubahry's calculator):

Congratulations Eddy. I'll definetely be looking at that Scotch Opening (trap?) after that last round game with Paul!

Not sure if this is the right move order for moves 5-7 but it ends up with the same position, my round 3 game with Denis that demonstrates the Peirce-McMahon rule in full effect :hmm:
James vs Denis

1. c4 b6 2. d4 Bb7 3. Nf3 d6 4. Bf4 g6
5. g3 Bg7 6. Bg2 Nd7 7. e3 e5 8. dxe5 dxe5
9. Bg5 f6 10. Bh4 g5 11. Nxg5 Bxg2 12. Qh5+ Ke7
13. Qf7+ Kd6 14. Qe6+ Kc5 15. a3 a5 16. Nc3 a4
17. Nge4+

For those who came in late: the Peirce-McMahon rule states that when Peirce and McMahon play any lightning or allegro game, whoever has the better position will always lose. After 10.Bh4, Black is clearly better - therefore, he will lose!
