Fedoseev beat Firouzja 15-14. Fedoseev is a monster at these short time controls, next he almost certainly will play Nakamura in what should be a great match.

Yeah that was an awesome match, I watched that yesterday. Great commentary from Giri and Rensch. Great match, going into overtime with the match squared up by Alireza winning the last 2 bullet games in normal time. I think if you take the increment away, it would favour Alireza more. Fedoseev definitely a deserving winner though.

There was a great game in Carlsen's R1 match I wanted to highlight also. Was a very lopsided match, Carlsen had won about 11 in a row. But then this game. Carlsen seemed to be rolling, with a strong attacking position on the white side of a benoni type structure. Parhan sacced a piece for just 2 pawns and turned the tables, and it was Parhan pressing. The game had a rather amusing finish, reminiscent (trolling?) a recent Alireza-Magnus clash.

Starts around 2:28.30

Wesley So through the round of 16 with an emphatic win over Nodirbek Abdussatorov. Actually the margin was worse at one stage, before Nodi won the final 2 bullet games.

I am tipping Carlsen to play Naka in the final.I would not be surprised to see So or Duda in the final.

Most of those losing was not a surprise, really only Nepo losing is at all surprising.

I cannot see Naka losing unless he is out of form or unwell.

Seemed like Carlsen still some ways off his best, following form in the Skilling Open.

Naka-So should be a great match.

Naka made the point that Carlsen is not playing well.Even so he will still defeat most players.

Very nice start to the match by Magnus with this Q sac in the first 5'1 game.

25.Qxc4+ Rxc4 26.Bxc4+ Rf7 27.Nxd6 1-0

MVL manages to win the match though, and will face Naka in the final.

I think his 2 biggest weapons are speed & tactics. He excels in bullet chess.

Absolutely! Vs Magnus as well as vs Naka, Maxim made a noticeable improvement in the speed part!
It worked vs Marcus but Hikaru's superiority in both factors you mentioned proved an unsurmountable barrier for the French.

I'd say it's his resoucefulness. Saving positions he had no business to save, many times.

I watched a replay of the whole thing and Nakamura was too good in the bullet. Maxime certainly was highly competitive for the vast majority the match even leading in the bullet section after winning the first two bullet games.

Yes...but it is his ''bullet'' focus that has been hurting his slow OTB chess over the years.

More money to be made streaming bullet anyway.
