Hi Martin -

Just entered (direct deposit, including the $20 for the CAQ). Looking forward to it, mate.

And I can also attest that the Spanish Inn is a chilled and affordable place to stay in Bundy - and close to everything in town, too.

Cheers,
Kevin Casey

Hi All

Entries are coming in. As you can see Kevin Casey was first, closely followed by the illustrious Mark Stokes and Ross Lam. Junior entries have also arrived the first being Jeeva Praveen. We look forward to many more and be sure to book your accomodation at The Spanish Motor Inn.

Hi, I was wanting to register for the tournament but hoping to share accommodation with someone. I'll be driving up from Brisbane (annerley) so let me know if anyone is interested! Planning to register on Monday, travel up on Friday night, and back to Bris on Sunday night.

Good news - our sponsors including Des Allen and Co are coming through to help guarantee the prize pool. Best of all is that Australian Macadamias have provided 6 bags of their excellent product to be upset prizes for each round. If there is no upset I will be forced to eat that round's prize. Oh dear what a pity.

I wonder how many entries you can get if you run the tournament on top of a mountain?

Looks like someone got a half-point bye while playing a game at the same time! :D :P

The way to prevent this in Swiss Perfect is to use 'Pairing' -> 'Verify Correctness' after each round. Or switch to Vega, which doesn't allow you to do this :)

Lol correct! Actually, I remember a case years ago with someone "A Goose" involved but I think the case was resolved in a humorous way.
Can't remember date, time and venue but something tells me it took place in Tasmania! ;) :D :P

Or switch to Vega, which doesn't allow you to do this :)The other way to prevent it is not to delete a player who actually exists in the pairing window. Unfortunately in some circumstances (player allocated a bye) SP will allow this to be done, however the the bye switches to another player resulting in a player appearing twice.

There is a Tasmanian "A Goose" reference I'm aware of but it's not related to that; it involves me flippantly substituting "A Goose" for my name after blundering a pure pawn ending in a simul against Erik Teichmann, only for the thing to be immortalised in the ACF newsletter. I don't remember a significant case of this pairings issue in Tasmania, though I do remember a visiting player of middling strength being given two full-point byes by one organiser!

right now it makes sense.. Actually, I think it's been more than a decade ago and I only had a vague memory of it, I can't actually remember if I read it of heard of it! Just referred to it for fun in the first place anyway! :D

I'm fascinated by the speculation; but just to let everyone know that there was a thirtieth entrant who we shall designate as Player FTA who was in the draw as a bye in the first round but was withdrawn and deleted before the second round was paired. Nobody had an unrequested bye as I became a bye-breaker.. So it looks like Bill has the correct answer. Willemse's score was corrected.

Willemse's score was corrected. When did that happen as his score is wrong in the final standings in post #18.

When did that happen as his score is wrong in the final standings in post #18.After R3 Now I’m intrigued.
The simple way to correct it would have been to delete the half point bye in round 1.

However given the SP files submitted for rating still had the half point bye in round one and posts 17 and 18 in this thread clearly have him with the wrong score total in the standings how exactly was this error supposedly corrected after round 3.

They say that mistakes are out there waiting to be invented. I checked through this with another arbiter at the time; obviously we missed something. I have the printed draw from round 1, which shows what occurred. I can scan it and send it to you. As I understand this we may have slightly skewed the draw in the lower half, but if you check the seeding for the top four boards are as you would expect them to be. This is turning out to be quite educational. Thank you.
