Norths Chess Club is pleased to announce its inaugural Allegro tournament, with the following details:

Location: 7:30 pm, Norths (formerly North Sydney Leagues Club), cnr Abbott & Palmer Streets, Cammeray.

Schedule: 21 January: Rounds 1 - 4 and 28 January: Rounds 5 - 8. Play commences at 7:30 pm. In the unlikely event of a room booking issue during these nights the schedule may change.

Format: 8 round (Dutch) Swiss, with pairings by Vega.

Time Control: All moves in 13 minutes plus a 3 seconds (Fischer) increment per move from move 1.

Eligibility: Players who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents must have a FIDE ID. Adult players must be members of or have paid a Registered Player Fee to the NSWCA. Juniors (aged under 18 years) must be members of the NSWJCL. Interstate players must be members of the equivalent State or Territory Association.

Prizes (based on 50 entries, and a minimum of 3 eligible players is required for a prize to be awarded)
Open: 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50
Rating: $40 for 1st in rating categories A and B (where these are the second and third tertile of rated players)
Unrated: $20

Entry Fee: $10. Free for GM, WGM, IM,WIM.

Rating: Results will be submitted for the ACF Quick and FIDE Rapid rating lists. A player's touranment rating will be determined according to the following hierarchy:

FIDE Rapid rating
FIDE Standard rating
FIDE Blitz rating
ACF Quick rating
ACF Classic rating

Players without any of these ratings will be considered unrated and will be eligible for the Open and Unrated prizes only.

Byes: Players may take up to two half-point byes in Rounds 16 by advising the arbiter prior to 7pm on the day of the corresponding round.

Tiebreaks: In the event of ties, prize monies will be shared. The winner and standings order will be determined by applying the following tiebreaks in descending order:

Direct encounter
Buchholtz Cut 1
Average Rating of Opponents Cut 1

Rules: The FIDE Laws of Chess apply, including Appendix A: Rapid Chess and Appendix A.4.

Entries: Enter at the Norths Allegro (http://www.northsydneychess.org/events/allegro) webpage. Entries close on Sunday 19 January. Late entries will be accepted at the arbiter's discretion, with up to two byes automatically allocated for missed rounds.

Yes, the Blitz Club Championship will be held on Tuesday 4 February (venue permitting) - I'll create a separate thread for it.

At the halfway mark Leron Kwong and Johannes Brack lead on 4/4, closely followed by Bruce Murray and Mark Wilson on 3.5/4.

With 4/4 on the second night of competition the top seed John Papantoniou stormed home to win the inaugural 2020 Norths Allegro by a full point.

Congratulations to all of the prize winners:
