Following results on Tornelo from home there seems to be a big gap between the masters>2150 and strong club players 1850><2000.
An idea is to have a double game (wh&Bl) 4 Player Scheveningen Round Robin for the top 4 seeds. Something for the committee to consider. (Maybe borrow 2 DGT boards from BHCC??? to make it online thing)
But in any case Allegro has come a long way from the days of <30 adult regulars (2010/11)-Well done to MCC

Congratz, Michael, good to see you back on the horse again. And another fine performance by young Lachlan Lee ...

Off topic: It's not very likely that I bring Ulf Andersson for an Allegro, but Peter Heine Nielsen has several times asked me about Australian trips. Probably an Open with me, but it's very much about his kids. An interesting idea with Magnus ... More likely than Ulf ...

We are pleased to announce that we are trialing an over the board Saturday MCC Allegro this Saturday 28th November.

This will take place in-line with all COVID-related restrictions. This means that the club will have a COVID-plan in place (see below) and there will be density restrictions and other COVID-safe policies put into place.

As such, this trial tournament will be limited to 20 people. We hope to increase this player limit in line with Victorian COVID-restrictions if the event runs smoothly. Get in quick to be a part of this first tournament!

To join, you must first register through Tornelo. Tornelo asks for your contact details and will act as an electronic register and our contact tracing system. We do not recommend arriving at the club without first registering in Tornelo as you may miss out on a spot; however, if there is space you may still be entered by the organiser.

Please be patient while we sort out our systems and processes as we have operated as an online-only-club since March.

MCC COVID-plan: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RqjMkSz9bSZjM8SXr4uruNglFAmJj3Mb/view?usp=sharing

To register: https://tornelo.com/chess/orgs/melbourne-chess-club/events/mcc-allegro-over-the-board

Where: the Melbourne Chess Club: 66 Leicester Street, Fitzroy, Victoria

Contact: Alexei Khamatgaleev 0426 731 726

Format: 7 round Swiss*, 13 minutes plus 2 seconds per move per person per game (you play all rounds).

Cost: $12 Adult Member, $10 Junior Member, $22 Adult non-Member, $20 Junior non-Member. (GMs/WGMs free, Club Members IMs/WIMs and FMs/WFMs Free)

Prizes: About 80% of the collected entry fee goes back into the prizes. Typically there is an open division and at least two rating group divisions (depending on numbers).

Who plays: Novices to Masters, 8-year-olds to Octogenarians. (If your child is particularly keen then it is possible to play if they are younger than 8 years old.)

* A Swiss tournament means you will play all rounds, each round you are paired with opponents with similar results. If you lose your first round, in round 2 you'll play someone who also lost their first game, if you then win your second round you'll play someone who also has 1/2 points.

Okay thanks. Access to games could be marketed for a modest fee. Maybe for bigger tournaments. Due to it supporting chess it may click. That could be innovative and original - for Oz at least.

It was not a very long game but a fighting one. After, 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 d5 I played 3. Bxf6!? and tried to exchange into a better endgame (extra pawn on queenside but Alexei played very accurately and it became clear that I will not be able to exchange the pawn center the way I wanted to.

Also very exciting fighting game against Jesse (I was on the Black side of Botvinnik, Semi-Slav).

Good to see so many enters, I presume you guys used all three rooms (well four if you consider the reception area)!
Must be amongst the very few times (if any) that you didn't finish first, second or rarely third.
Only one point away from the winners and finishing 8th, I mean give me a break!
Must have been a great experience for the juniors to play vs GMs, IMs and FMs although not a rare phenomenon at MCC.
Justin and Solo, always performing according to their huge talents (Justin) and talent and experience (Solo)!
Nice to see Tony doing so well, where's his dad Bosko? I hope he's ok!
Also good to see Elizabeth Warren back, what about Tanya I haven't seen her or heard of her for quite a while!
That's since the Artists temporarily ceased activities due to Covid-19.

Thx, ER
I will enquire about Bosko and Tanya. Hopefully, both are well and will be back in action soon!

I've spoken with Tony today. Bosko is fine and sending his best regards. He may resume allegro play soon.
