For some reason they have 2 chess-results websites. One that is updated is http://chess-results.com/tnr502260.aspx?lan=1&art=2&rd=3&turdet=YES&flag=30

The games can be seen in the following website https://live.followchess.com/#!montebelluna-december-2019/-806829114

This tournament is for real chess lovers. The structure is the same as in the Doerbel + SIO, 18 games in 11 days. But noticeably stronger average rating, even in round 1 Anton was paired against 2340. Secondly, most of the participants are kids or young adults in the range of 16-23 year olds. Draw agreements are not allowed until move 20. And finally, there are no prizes.

The second round was grueling 88 move effort against a clearly underrated 19 year old.

Impeccable endgame technique. If there's no prizes, there should be no entry fee. :) Is there any way to see his Round 1 game?

An attacking effort against a 16 year old. I was happy Anton found 24. Nf5... It must feel really great to make a move like that in a real game.:)

I was thinking 21...0-0 22.Rd2 N3e5 might be okay, or maybe 22.Qg4 is better. Don't delay castling against Anton - that is just ruthless!

I think black was much worse by then, the knights are too much of a burden and he is still yet to castle. 23. Nc2 looks like a material win

There's a betting site that lists Anton at 66/1 for the Tata Challengers (bwin). You can't bet on it from Aust but I'm using a UK contact to put 40 pounds on (2500 payout limit). Even with opponents like Elijanov they're ridiculous odds

4/4!

66/1 sounds ridiculously low to me. Anton's average performance over 26 games he has played so far in Europe is about 2750. He has gained 44 rating points and his live rating at the moment is 2617. So the fair bet would be higher than 10/1.

I do not think Elijanov is the favorite in this tournament though. There are quite a few very dangerous underrated youngsters.

I have just noticed the following FIDE rule regarding the current world championship in rapid and blitz:

FIDE is proud to note that the joint efforts of the parties secured a prize fund of 1 million US dollars for this event. The organizer will provide full board accommodation in a standard room (4-star hotel minimum), from December 25th to 31st 2019, to the players who meet the following criteria:

Open competition

Players rated at least 2750 in any of the FIDE rating lists (Standard, Rapid or Blitz) from January 1st to December 1st, 2019.

Probably the best bet is blitz as Anton already has about 2650 and it has K-factor of 20. Plus his performances in Australia have been usually 2800+. So getting to 2700 should be relatively easy, getting to 2750 needs a bit of luck as it is effectively top 20 in the world.:)

Great to see Anton doing so well! I'll be following the challengers closely.

I have had a long chat with Anton yesterday before round 4. Anton, the draw is a good result, there is no need to beat these poor Europeans. He keeps saying in response - "yes, dad, I agree. I will play for a draw." One can see the result. He could not resist the temptation and went all the way, very close to being suicidal but still successful.

Today the story repeats itself. "Anton, this guy is a good guy. He needs a gm norm. Let him off."

Anton - "Yes, dad, I will go easy on him."

Maybe another 10 useless moves to burn the opponent's time to make it closer to 5 minutes and then they play some lightning. Surprising how many people do this.

P.S. Hard to blame the opponent, too much pressure, b5 was not a good choice.

P.S.2 6.30 minutes on the opponent's clocks and hurricane Anton strikes.:)

P.S.3 One more win and Anton moves into the uncharted for Australians territory, his life rating is 2620.

Yes, but I was expecting 34.c5 then 35.b5 - 2 connected passers for the 2nd game in a row. So what if Black has counterplay with ...Rd4. Anton needs to think of the fans back home. :) He's making it all look a bit too easy!

Yep, one can take only one half-point bye in the first 6 rounds. As I said no prizes, only bonus if 7/9 is achieved. So need 1.5/3 in the remaining games.
