shame on you, you 're either getting fossilized, or have lost touch with chess reality for good (or maybe both)
It's in Churchie - Brissy (*) you drongo - one of the best, if not the best, chess venues in the country!
Couldn't the fact that Alex will be there commenting ring a bell that the place 's not in Nicaragua or Cappadocia
or there abouts? If you can make some time get there and be a part of it. It's a great event and you 'll have lots of fun!
Remember telling Capa-Fan the other day if he could still play blindfold? It would have been a great idea for him
to come over to QLD to see his old mates at Logan and also play a blindfold match one to one vs Timur!!!

(*)The Anglican Church Grammar School, formerly the Church of England Grammar School and commonly referred
to as Churchie, is an independent, Anglican, day and boarding school for boys, located in Oaklands Parade, East Brisbane QLD

Now listen the last time I heard of Alex being somewhere unknown was described by Pete Parr in the back of Europe in a bus and enjoying himself profusely - leave it at that. I have come across him at the Byronian Café but we can second guess where that is. I may have been at that Churchie venue if that was where a big championship was held a few years back. I think you were reporting on the award ceremony with GM Rogers in late arvo. I was already buggered from many jobs up there and had to drive back and avoid peak hour traffic so I just had a few social games and took off. I intended meeting up with you then. I have to go to Ballina on the 20th Nov but will see how it goes if I can hitch a lift up. I won't directly cause the pollution. Does the GM take on geriatric patzers like myself and how much? I was thinking if we all colluded before the match to play off beat openings to try and baffle him with unusual positions?

yes, and if you don't drive, buses from the city will take you close by there (about 5-7 minutes walk)! eve better get the boat, fantastic river views!

the guy is unbelievably friendly and would take on anyone. any place... If you invited him he 'd help you with your outdoor chess exhibitions.
https://en.chessbase.com/post/timur-in-the-sky-for-chess-life!
You 'd really love to have him around - a real-living-chess-for-the-masses advertisement he is.
Not so sure if you could confuse him with mad openings because he plays them himself particularly versus conservative stuff like the French, he mated this guy in 17 moves or something.
I think that a good line to get him guessing when blindfold is something like what Vlad does in blitz games it goes something like 1.Nf3 2.Ng1, 3. Nf3 (1.NKB3 2.NKN1. 3. NKB3 in the old style that I suspect you still use)
I really can't make it to come up there for just a day of blindfold chess, if it was for a tournament or combined with a bit of a holiday, different story.

Coming back to the topic of the thread, I encourage all - particularly the youngsters to enter the event and have a go at the GM.
Having been in occasions such as this, I can assure you that it's great fun and you will all have a grouse time! Go for it! :)

Timur has opened with the Blackmar-Diemer gambit against Elizabeth Williams, which should be interesting.

I miss my old mates at Logan, but hard to arrange to fly back from Atlanta. It would be interesting to play one-on-one, but he is a GM and I am not, and he has played many more opponents simultaneously.

Earlier this year, Gareyev gave a 12-board blindfold clock simul at my even older haunt, Wellington Chess Club (https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/110313450/playing-chess-blindfolded-on-exercise-bike-like-painting-says-grandmaster-timur-gareyev), and two of his opponents were the joint NZ champs, IMs Ker and Dive who also played blindfold. Both of them play one blindfold game well, but they are not blindfold simul specialists to my knowledge, and both drew.

HAHAHAHA

Great stuff that GM Gareyev is back in Aus. Best of luck to all participants
Whilst he is still in Aus, any chance of a Melbourne stop over before heading back to U.S.
An event like this could be @ State library or somewhere more public than just MCC/BHCC
If he were to come to Melb I would DEFINETELY play.
