Good morning everyone. This is the first opportunity to provide updates for this event. Whilst we have completed 3 rounds on Saturday it was a challenge with IT connectivity and no working printers. What was a blessing was that it rained!!!

Anyhow, there has been 19 entrants into this event with the majority being juniors. The organiser, Gail Young, is very pleased the number of entrants especially as there is a strong core of young girls now entering into not only this tournament but other local weekenders in Brisbane. The event caters for under 8's through to the open section. Actually, the largest cohort is the under 8's with a field of 6 and 4 in the under 10's.

The event sees 4 of the top boards being broadcasted live. This is a first for women's chess in Queensland, but hopefully will be the benchmark for future such events.

Thanks, Horace! Great stuff! Where can I get a pic of the amazing Elizabeth Williams? She has played in a bagful of big tourneys this year? School? The world deserves to know more about this emerging champion, and some of the others too!

Kind Regards, Frank

A perusal of some of her live games captured by the remarkable Queensland treasure Aunix LiveChess at https://livechess.aunz.net/qld-womens-and-girls-championship-2019/view-games/ shows a strong positional grasp of chess by a 7-year old girl superior to that of many adults.

State champion at the age of 7.5....is it a record worthy of Guiness Book of records?
It could be!
