This years Ryde Eastwood will be held in honour of one of Australia's greatest players, Cecil John Seddon Purdy. Purdy was an International Master and 4-time Australian Champion in over-the-board chess, but his true claim to fame was in the slower form of the game. In 1953 he won the inaugural Correspondence Chess World Championship, scoring 10.5/13 in the finals to finish ahead of a strong field. A true legend of the game.

Note that the prize fund stated below is incorrect. It should be $5,200, not $3,200. Prizes adjusted accordingly.

The NSWCA web site and Facebook page also have the prize fund wrong, but it's correct in the brochure (as mailed out and downloadable on the web page).

The first post above has been corrected as has the NSWCA website.

It looks like the sum of all prizes is still 3200, while it is stated to be 5200.

$5,200 on offer

80 odd Entries - looks like a heathy tournament.
The dungeon at Ryde Eastwood is a little cramped but they have improved the lighting in one end - so the top boards are well lit.

The start was delayed a little by the logistics of such a large number in a small venue - and then the printer connection to a new laptop slowed things down a little more - it's never easy running an event with good numbers attending.
I look forward to seeing more on the event.

This is seriously big prizemoney. And the work behind the scenes is always humungous!

Good to see Rooty Hill's WGM Jilin came in second in a strong field. And congratulations to Igor on his victory. Some nice pocket money for them both from their weekend's work.
