View Full Version : 2019 Norths Rapid Championship (Tuesday 6, 13 and 20 August; FIDE rated)

Location: Norths (formerly North Sydney Leagues Club), cnr Abbott & Palmer Streets, Cammeray, Sydney NSW.

Format: 9 round (Dutch) Swiss, with pairings by Vega.

Schedule: 3 rounds per night on 6, 13 and 20 August (if there is a room booking issue during these nights, 27 August will be used). Games commences at 7:30 pm.

Eligibility: Players who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents must have a FIDE ID. Adults must be a member of the NSWCA (or equivalent state association), while juniors must be members of the NSWJCL (or equivalent state association).

Time Control: All moves in 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move from move 1.

Prizes: 1st: $250; 2nd: $150, 3rd: $100, Rating Group A, B and C: $80 each, Unrated: $40 (based on 50 entries). Prizes will be shared equally among players on the same score but each player may receive only one prize. A minimum of 3 eligible players is required for a prize to be awarded.

Entry Fees: Norths Chess Club members $20; non-members $30.

Rating: Results will be submitted for the ACF Quick and FIDE Rapid rating lists.
A player's touranment rating (used for pairings and rating prizes) will be determined by the following hierarchy:

FIDE Rapid rating
FIDE Standard rating
FIDE Blitz rating
ACF Quick rating
ACF Classic rating


Players without any of these ratings will be considered to be unrated.

Byes: Players may take up to two half-point byes in Rounds 1–7 by advising the arbiter prior to 7pm on the day of the relevant round (e.g. a request for a bye for Round 5 must be made to the arbiter prior to 7pm on 13 August).

Tiebreaks: In the event of ties, prize monies will be shared but the winner and standings order will be determined by applying the following tiebreaks in descending order:

Buchholtz Cut 1
Average Rating of Opponents Cut 1


Rules: The FIDE Laws of Chess apply, including Appendix A: Rapid Chess and Appendix A.4.

Entry: Enter online at the Norths Rapid Championship website (http://www.northsydneychess.org/events/rapid), which also has the complete details.

Entries close: Entries must be received by Saturday 3 August 2019. Late entries will be accepted at the arbiter's discretion, with up to two byes automatically allocated for missed rounds.
