Strong International Tournament taking place in Shamkir.

Magnus is among the participants!
The highlight of rd1 Anand-Navara - with Visi faltering in a winning position to allow a draw.

Rd2 Heart-Break
Giri-Karjiakin - Anish managed to lose a winning a position in a few moves.

As was every game in R4.

Missed wins in some of the draws though...e.g. Navara's amazing escape against Vishi.

7/9 - Fantastic performance by Magnus!
Should also be noted that in the last round - he played for win (and did so very well) even though the first place was guaranteed already.

Sergei was lucky to score what he did, if only he lost his first rd game against Giri - it would be a totally different tournament for him.

One Giri will be wanting to forget, dead last and losing 17.7 points (more than Carlsen gained)!

Well objectively speaking - Magnus has been number 1 player for a while rather clearly and no clear number 2 in sight as others are more or less same level.

Some remarkable play by Carlsen—in at least three of his wins, he made very subtle pawn sacrifices where the compensation was far from obvious, but his judgment was very accurate and profound. Apparently he has been studying Alpha Zero.

I thought his game v Giri was very interesting, though a little surprising he didn't play 26.Rxg6.

Yes, that would have been a worthy finish to an attack that started with the deep sac of the central P with check.
