I take it that you would like the event to be registered for the CAQ Grand Prix given we haven't had any information about it or even locked in the calendar dates (and thus there is now a clash on the Sunday with the GC Rapid).

Make sure you have registered it with ACF also, if you haven't already - though looking at the ACF Grand Prix site there are a few events missing that i know of already.

Competition has been ACF Grand Prix registered and dates were advertised at the start of the year. Thank you for following up Andrew.

Awesome. The more ACF rated events on the calendar the better.

The reason I make the point though, is that if information had been sent to the CAQ about the event (information which i requested via email on the 15th Jan) then we would be able to assist your event by both putting it on the CAQ list of upcoming events and also being able to provide the CAQ tournament subsidy for SEQ events.

Would you use an expired rating for seeding?

Would you use an expired rating for seeding?

Expired ratings should be used for seedings and ratings prize divisions. Although they're not an accurate indicator of a player's likely playing strength they are better than nothing.

Brian Kemish will have a rating on the June list: "1923 12 219 27 Kemish, Brian". It's not 'official' yet, but has been posted on Chess Chat. He is definitely around that strength.

Good luck with the tournament!

Sorry for the late upload - I've only just finished up everything after a hectic weekend of Chess! Full Gallery and Report can be viewed at: https://www.chesspeople.com.au/single-post/2018/06/04/2018-Chess-People-Open

Organisers Report:

Thank you to everyone that contributed to this event... it was a great warm up for the Gold Coast Open! The competition saw a turnout of 27 participants. This was significantly less than expected, due to several external factors, but never the less prize fund was still in full force. It was a sunny and fresh weekend in Brisbane which meant for a fun and peaceful competition. The sausage sizzle was a must have as well.

The tournament was played in great spirits and I was extremely impressed with the high quality of Chess games. IM Brodie McCylmont and I did a lot of post game analysis to help everyone improve their standard of Chess. We are always happy to give back! Some of the matches can be viewed on www.chesstvaustralia.com.au.

Everything ran smoothly with not a single dispute. Back to back 1st Overall victories for Gene Nakauchi at the Chess People Open. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and I'll see you all at our next event. A special congratulations to all of the prize winners -

2018 Chess People Open:

1st - Gene Nakauchi (6/6 points) - $500
2nd - Brian Kemish (5/6 points) - $300
=3rd - Nizami Ousmand (4/6 points) - $50
=3rd - Tony Weller (4/6 points) - $50

U1600 1st - George Warta (4.5/6 points) - $300 (George was eligible for 3rd overall but won a higher prize of $300 in the U1600's division)
U1600 =2nd - Ben Peach (4/6 points) - $125
U1600 =2nd - Axel Stahnke (4/6 points) - $125

U1000 1st - Allan Li (3.5/6 points) - $300
U1000 =2nd Zerui Xing (3/6 points) - $62.50
U1000 =2nd Michael Dullaway (3/6 points) - $62.50
U1000 =2nd Kevin Chou (3/6 points) - $62.50
U1000 =2nd Cynthia Li (3/6 points) - $62.50
($100 best U18 junior prize inclusive as all 4 students were eligible)

A terrific performance from George Warta and Allan Li especially. The official June rating list hadn't come out in time so Allan was lucky to still be rated U1000ACF (technically). Either way he played well above his rating and I'm sure these 2 players will see a big rating jump in the foreseeable future!

Thanks again to Alex and the rest of the ChessPeople for putting on the weekender.

A well run tournament on a beautiful Brisbane weekend in a nice old historical theater.

I enjoyed my games, especially against the 'other' George, and Nizami.

Congrats to Gene and the rest of the prizewinners.

cheers Garrett.

The turnout wasn't as good as last year's chess people open. Maybe this was due to it clashing with the Gardiner chess rapid event?
