Final leg of the GP series.

Mamedyarov and Grischuk are the leaders in the series (top two qualify to Candidates) but aren't playing. Radjabov and Vachier-Lagrave are both playing but in isolation Radjabov needs at least =3rd-4th and Vachier-Lagrave needs at least =2nd-3rd (if he gets exactly that there are a range of tiebreaks).

Vachier-Lagrave has started well with a win in round 1.

MVL was doing well against Aronian in Rd3 but let him off.

Top three will qualify from GP if the followings are true:
1) FIDE follow their rules and regulations. They don't forbid the World Champion to play in Candidates.
and
2) Carlsen refuses to play in Candidates.

They don't forbid the World Champion to play in Candidates.I think you'll find that the rules will be changed to do so if he tries.

Wow, they changed it during the current cycle. An older one must apply:

You were right - they've just changed the rules. Grischuk or whoever will be the third in GP should sue them.

All games drawn last night. On another note, The GP appears to attract far less media attention than strong international events such as London or Dortmund.

Radjabov loses in round 6 which means he is just about gone for a Candidates place. Even win-win-win might not be enough.

MVL and Radjabov both failed to qualify for the Candidates with MVL having to play for a win against Jakovenko but losing, and Radjabov drawing. Jakovenko hence tied with Aronian for first.

As a result Mamedyarov and Grischuk qualify for the Candidates Tournament and the Candidates are:

Karjakin
Aronian
Ding Liren
Mamedyarov
Grischuk
Caruana
So
Kramnik

Candidates is March 10-28 2018

Strange decision by Radjabov not to play in the final position in Rd1. He needed a win. Also As a result of MVL over-Pressing, Jakovenko finished the tournament 1st equal.
