Good start By Bobby. He won his game against a talented Dutch junior.

Bobby off to 2/2 against 2450+ opponents, what's the score for a GM norm?

Great start by Bobby. The field is solid but includes only one strong GM (Fier). Lobron used to be very strong...but it was 25 years ago. Therefore, great opportunity ahead!

Michael, are you feeling competitive against other Barons?

Don't think our Baron has been banned from Chess.com for Cheating (https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/57iv77/18yo_vladislav_artemiev_gained_692_rating_points/d8suthh/)

Wow, Gms cheating too while playing online? Amazing! I thought only some patzers are doing it.

Unfortunately his last tournament, already missing the first week of uni playing in this one. He's hovering around 2475 live now.

Now needs 2.5/4 against two GMs, an IM and an FM.

Bobby seemed to get good position against top seed with white but lost control in time trouble, two losses in a row means he needs 2.5/3

Winning position after 24 moves, after this looks like time trouble became a factor.

Fairly quiet draw by Bobby today, so he is on 4.5/7 now.

2/2 with GM Tal Baron still to go, seems unlikely but definitely doable by Bobby.

With a name like that it should be an easy win for Bobby.

Absolutely. I guess You are referring to Tal :)

looks like Bobby (Black) has the upper hand (-1.38) to Stockfish!
Tal Baron is under time pressure too. He has 25 mins left for 26 moves to reach 40!
Bobby has one hour!

Yes so far white is playing like Baron rather than Tal. His position looks very unpleasant.

I think Baron tried to psych bobby out with snapping out f5 and o-o, bobby just played normal moves and seems to be steamrolling towards the king

Looks like Black is winning by strangulation.
Stockfish gives Bobby a -2.93 and a Black is winning verdict!
What's going on now ThebeJohnston? do we get the GM norm?

well bobby's blitzing out top stockfish line so I have no doubt.

Edit: 0-1, congrats Bobby to beating 2/3 Gm's especially a must win with black in the last round.

I believe bobby still has 2 more norms and 30 rating points to go, and is already missing first week of uni to play in this, so his title might be awhile away. Smirnov is probably our next hope, 1 norm away.

Totally disgusting position for white. I guess he could not be bothered to struggle. Not clear how to stop Ne4 winning the exchange and after that, while will still remain very passive without any counterplay.

Of course Baron threw in the towel here, his position is bad and he will be down on material, but Tal would have played on!

Poor choice of opponent to go the hack against. Maybe should have studied Bobby's games and not just what openings he plays.
