So far, Justin is on 2/2 playing with black on board 1 in the next round.

Draw with black against GM Berkes was a great start to the "business end".

A win with black has Justin playing on top board against the third seed Vakhidov.

A super solid 4.5/6 so far. By my estimation he needs 2.5/3 to finish for a GM norm pretty much irrespective of the opposition (he has black vs GM Gormally in round 7).

I recall Sam Chow crushing him last month, so hopefully Justin can be the second aussie to crush him

Now 6/8 and requires a win with White against FM James Jackson 2348 to complete the GM norm

A golden opportunity, which demonstrates a little bit of luck involved in GM norms. He could have easily been facing black vs GM Gareyev! A win will also place Justin in the top three places ahead of four GMs.

The opponent (25 year old) will be highly motivated as a draw gives him an IM norm. So no matter what happens one of them will get a norm...:)

Not only did he score a GM norm, but it seems he is going to also get outright second, and I'm also sure I saw a sponsored prize of $100 for each GM norm scored.

Another Aussie GM in the making - what's happening!

It's quite something: we have seven candidates for an Olympiad who are either GMs already or else making solid progress in the pursuit of GM titles.
