On Sunday 6th March, GM Nigel Short gave an informative and entertaining lecture to more than 100 chess enthusiasts at the Rhein-Donau Club in Myaree, Perth.

This was followed by a simultaneous exhibition, in which 30 of WA's best players took on the former World Championship contender.

Nigel lost just 1 game, to the 2016 Australian Reserves Champion, 16-year-old Patrick Gong.

Five players achieved draws: Tristan Boyd, Tom Donaldson, Edik Gilmetdinov, Andrew Hardegen and Adam Kelly.

Thanks go to David Ellis for organising this spectacular event, and Wolfgang Leonhardt for managing to secure the excellent venue.

Here is my own game (I hope this works):

Did he play C4 on every board or did he mix it up?

He definitely played 1. e4 against most of the higher-rated players.

Not sure whether he played any other first moves besides 1. e4 and 1. c4.

Edit: he played 1. d4 against Patrick Gong.

I also faced 1. d4 on board 6. It was a great well-organised day in Perth.
