Don't know what simul prices are usually like on the North Island but that seems a total bargain for a simul game vs an IM.

Alex gives weekly simuls at various schools around Brisbane but mostly Churchie, very generous guy. Was watching one today, very funny commentary during them too

We're trying to maximise the turnout for our first big event, the Challenger, so that's why we're encouraging as many people as possible to come to these lead-up events. Hopefully our efforts will be worth it and our young club will grow! :)

The event was a lot of fun! All games were played in great spirit, with a competitive yet very relaxed atmosphere. It was great to see many new faces to the club, some playing their first OTB event. Equally pleasing was seeing John Myers (recently coming back to competitive chess) taking part.

Next Friday(3 February, 7 pm start) is the Allegro! A great chance to warm up before we kick off with our more serious tournaments! :)

Second that. Strange that they are the only results not here, although I know Dusan was looking after the Tin Cup all weekend. Still, it would be good to see the results; junior players in particular always enjoy seeing their results online.

AGM

A huge thank you to the folks that stayed behind for the Club's AGM. I'm really looking forward to working with a fresh new committee in 2019. After 3 years of the Club up and running, I believe we will be able to lift it to new heights. Team for 2019: Orsen van der Byl, David Esmonde, Peter Lucas, Alexandra Jule, Ivo Nekvapil and myself.

That's all for 2018. We resume on 31 January 2019. Merry Christmas and a Happy 2019! :)

It was certainly a special night, with lots of great banter during the games! By popular vote, the Best Banter-er award went to Orsen van der Byl. Finally, to add to the occasion we had an honorary guest, GM Kayden Troff. Kayden has nearly completed his two-year service in Australia as a missionary, and will return to the US in less than two weeks. It was great to see our members challenge (unsuccessfully) Kayden to some blitz.

Sounds interesting. Is this format a first for Australia? (*) I wish you all the best anyway!
(*) We had similar at the MCC but with different elimination process!
I am taking this elsewhere in the forum in order to avoid irrelevant responses and threadjacking. Cheers

Hi Kotaro.... if we have less then 32 then some higher rated players will have byes to Round 2.... just like the FIDE World Cup. At the moment the top 8 seeds will automatically proceed to Round 2 but I expect a few more entries. We need 8 more to reach 32.
