The Redcliffe Chess Club re-opens for 2016 on Wednesday night January 20 with our 6 round ACF rated Summer Swiss.
See you at Room F1 of Grace Lutheran College Buchanan Street Rothwell at 7:30pm ( Park near the school swimming pool )

19 players have entered our second 6 round Swiss of the Year, The 2016 Tal Memorial! Here are the top 6 board results from R1, on Wednesday Night March 2.

B1 : Tom Maguire (2074) 1 Joseph Curtain (1254) 0 Joseph put up a real big fight in this one!
B2 : PJ Bargo (1060) 0 Tony Truscott (1892) 1 PJ played 1b4 but blundered this pawn early in the game.
B3 : Allan Fossey (1891) 1 Sam Gill (789) 0 Sam Gill gave Allan a real game - it went into the second hour before Allan got well on top.
B4 : Bob Maczkowiack (570) 0 Tony Weller (1734) 1 Tony had to win a bishops of opposite coloured ending!
B5 : Max Kershaw (1702) 1 Keith Chaterton (unr) 0 Max won without too much trouble.
B6 : Gill D'Andrea (unr) 0 Sam Long (1699) 1 Sam Long won quickly and the coached Gill on how to castle early and develop all his pieces.

Mark Stokes had to work very hard to beat Colin Dougherty on B7 and Tony McRoberts won most convincingly on B8.
Norm Braybrooke had a 1 point bye and both Bryce Wilson and Werner Lovli took half point R1 byes.

R2 starts at 8pm on Wednesday night March 9 in room F1 of Grace Lutheran College, Buchanan St, Rothwell.

The Tal Memorial on Wednesday night April 6 was won by Tony Truscott on 5.5 out of 6. His draw was with Allan Fossey. Tony saved a lost position with a clever stalemate trick.

1st Tony Truscott 5.5/6
2nd Allan Fossey 4.5/6
3rd Tony Weller and Edwin Onilongo on 4/6
5th Mark Stokes and Tom Maguire on 3.5/6 Tom missed a couple of rounds in this event.
7th Sam Long, Tony McRoberts and Matthew Pollard on 3/6
10th Keith Chaterton, Bryce Wilson, Aaron Stringfellow and Max Kershaw on 2.5/6

27 players took part in this event!
