Aussie showdown in round eight after Justin and Rishi won again. Both are within shot of the medal boards, but two clear points behind the extraordinary Iranian Mosadeghpour on 7/7 (with six wins over titled players including seeds 2, 3 and 4).

Both now on 7/10 (after Rishi beat Justin in round 8), with Justin facing GM Alekseenko in the last round. A fine effort by both players so far.

Max Chew Lee performing way above rating though you wouldn't know it from chess-results' silly PR formulae.

Nice work, they were seeded 8th and 23rd. Justin took down the GM who had been one and a half points ahead of him in the final round!

Both Justin and Rishi got the bronze. Two Aussies on the podium at World Youth!

That's a very odd system for players who finished a clear half point behind =2nd-3rd. Nevertheless, a stunning result for these two talented Aussies. Presumably the best ever performance by an Australian in the u18 section, or did Ian Rogers do better back in the day?

Oops .....not bronzes - but medals for 4th and 5th ....sorry!

My guess would be one of the best individual performances in the World U18 by Australians, though as a combined result (two players in top 5), it would be best by a long way I would imagine!

From Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Youth_Chess_Championship):
1975 – Creil, France, 1–12 July – The second World Cadets was once again a French organised Under-18 event, comprising twenty-five players in an 11 round Swiss. David Goodman of England won the gold medal (8/11), with silver going to Terence Wong of Singapore (8/11) and bronze to Predrag Nikolić of Yugoslavia (7/11). Also with 7 points was Australia's Ian Rogers, taking a share of third place. The West German Eric Lobron and Lebanese Bachar Kouatly were two future grandmasters who also took part.
