Hey Mark -

Any chance of 5-0 instead of 3-2 time controls in the blitz this year? Just askin'....

Cheers,
Kevin Casey

I'm with Kevin flag-falling is apart of lightning that you can use when you aren't as good as your opponent

I think that 3-2 is better because it puts players under time pressure for longer even with the incriment

I have always felt that 3-2 'feels' more like 3-0. I think it leads to far more silly mistakes than 5-0. Yes, there are always going to be plenty of mistakes in a blitz game, but I believe 3-2 creates a far lower quality game of blitz than 5-0 (based on over 40 years of playing blitz at a variety of time controls). Just my two cents....

Cheers,
Kevin Casey

Again agree with Kevin the longer time control helps even out the contest if you survive the opening both players have time to take chances

5 0 is only longer if the number of moves is less than 60. After 60 moves 3 2 is the longer time control.

The CAQ Bylaws state 3 minutes plus 2 seconds time control, and 11 rounds not 9! So we will follow the rules!

CAQ site crashed about week ago and restored with old data. It even doesn't have information about this team tournament. Has someone noticed that and/or restoring the site?

This wasn't just a problem with the CAQ website. Two sites I maintain also lost all their recent files - anything new uploaded after Sept 1 2015 just disappeared. As they share a common host with the CAQ website, this is obviously a problem with the hosting computers.

I had contacted various CAQ officials about this last week, but nothing happened until your post, so perhaps I'll just use Chess Chat in future! While the upcoming tournaments and tournament results appear to be restored, other sections of the site are still trapped in the past (eg ratings) - as it's such an unusual issue, possibly the webmaster has not realised what the cause is.

The CAQ Webpage is now back! I was worried that the Teams Chess Day Page was not up too! More good news now though: Park Rd Chess club and perhaps a second Andrew Davies Team, Chess Club Collective, are likely to enter! Will Brisbane Chess Club form a team this year?????

Looks like a very competitive Teams of 6 Chess Day is on the cards this Sunday December 13 at Bracken Ridge. Some Clubs are likely to field 2 teams! We are likely to have Gold Coast 1 and 2, Park Road 1 and 2 and Redcliffe 1 and 2! We will also see one team each from Bullwinkle, Tyson's Epicness, The Gap, Logan and Ostapenko's Juniors and University of Queensland. 12 Teams vying for the title of Queensland's Champion Team could make it the best ever Teams of 6 Chess Fay.

Redcliffe 2 nearly beat Redcliffe 1- that would have made for interesting conversation at the Club on Wednesday night! A BIG BIG thank-you to Andrew Fitzpatrick for running the Teams of 6 Day with 13 Teams so efficiently- we even had time for a lunch break!
24 players even stayed on for the Queensland Lightning between 5pm and 7:30pm! ( Moulthun won the Lightning in a play-off with Brodie McClymont 2.5-1.5 )
We are thinking about moving the Lightning to the Saturday and leave the Teams as a stand alone event on the Sunday in 2016. What do you think about this idea?

Was an extremely difficult competition with many teams having strong players across all 6 boards. Well done andrew great tournament as always.
