Is the venue anywhere near the city?

it is about 10 minutes to Tuggeranong which does have accomodation and a large shopping center

The tuggeranong buses that go to Erindale which is where the venue is held are very convenient and come every few minutes

Thanks for the response and the info ThebeJohnston. There's a 50/50 chance I will come over. Apart from the Doeberl Cup I have never played in the ACT!

There's a 50/50 chance I will come over ...!

Make that 70%, , 90% just booked
flights,
hotel and
registered
for the tournament!
The cutest registration procedure ever!!! :)
Plus I was given a chance to practice my Italian! :)

The plan. Part ONE (I think it's the final part, but I just wanted it to look more dramatic)!

Well a bit of miscalculation there (after all it cost Svidler the World Cup; It added about an hour to my walking from the hotel to the venue not a biggy).

Well, how on earth could I have guessed that there are about 15 blessed Viking Clubs in Das Kapital?

I went like "WOW there's a hotel next to the venue, let's grab a room before the barbarian hordes come swarming in! yeah right bud!"

Well the good news is that there's an almost direct bus service from the hotel to the venue. If the worse comes to worst, I can afford a cab or even a chopper if need be thanks to MPL, ain't that right mate? ;)

Cheers and good luck for now! I better shut up and let some other people post in the thread too!

Ciao amici ci vediamo Sabato, 14 Novembre 2015!

There is now less than four weeks until the Vikings Weekender 2015. Please refer to details above.

So far a dozen players have registered and we expect a final field in excess of last year's total of sixty.

For interstate players there is accommodation available in Tuggeranong (just search with Google) with reliable ACTION bus service to and from the venue.

If you are intending to play please register, thereby encouraging others to join.

A quick update on the Vikings Weekender 2015.

With only a week to go (see details in earlier post) we are approaching three dozen players already registered.

This is great to see as there is no discount for early entry. It is possible to simply turn up tomorrow week with your entry fee and you will be in the draw.

That said, the more people who do enter earlier the more encouragement is offered to those of you who are still undecided.

Last year saw a total field across the two divisions of some sixty players. We expect to improve on that this year so it should be an enjoyable experience for players of all levels.

There are special prizes for juniors and females. This is in addition to generous place and ratings group prizes.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Tournament starts this morning 10:30pm (or thereabouts).

Director of Play Shaun Press has advised that the following site will be available.

tournaments.streetchess.net

The page contains links to the standings plus live coverage of the top 2 or 3 boards. He has also added a link to the dgt replay system which he is developing, and so you can see games from previous rounds (he have also put up last years round 7 games from the event). This system is still in beta so it is both a service and a test run!
