Leitsha Simmonds won her final 3 games on Sunday to win the tournament and The Qld Womens' Title with 7 out of 7! Congratulations to Leitsha! Nina Tchitaev took out 2nd place and The Qld Girls' Championship with 5 points, followed closely by Gail Young with 4.5 points in 3rd place. Sophie Watkins was outright 4th with 4 points, just ahead of her sister Rachel in outright 5th place with 3.5 points. The third Watkins' sister, Bridgette. shared equal 6th place on 3 points with Itsuki Oka and Sophie Congreve. Little 8 year old Emily Kua impressed all with her concentration and she will be a player to watch over the next few years! Emily scored 2 points and finished 9th overall. 6 year old Erin Dullaway had to withdraw after 4 rounds but learnt a lot from her 4 games. Each player competed with great spirit and many games were hard fought and went down to the wire. Itsuki really pushed Leitsha all the way to a Rook and 5 pawns each endgame in the final round! It was a most enjoyable tournament to direct!
