If I were still living in Brizzie, then I would play :(

...Will Tony Dowden also come? ... No. I'm in NZ for five days just beforehand (and I've just played in the Doeberl Premier), so it's not fair on my family to be effectively 'away' for another two days.

I hope it goes well!

Tony, that is exactly I would not go to the Doeberl - as not to be away family for 5 days over break. I will get to Brissie comps soon enough when no projects on.

Defending Veterans' Champion John Myers has won his first 3 games in the 2015 Veterans, and takes a one point lead over his nearest rivals into Day 2. He has defeated Max Kershaw, Tony Weller and second seed Alain Pardoen. John has White against Mark C Stokes in R4.

My $1 bet is on John Myers to go on with it on Sunday and win with one pawn in the air! The minor placings look likely to come from Tony Weller, Alain Pardoen and perhaps Mark C Stokes! Oleg Korenevski could also come home strongly!

My $1 bet on John Myers looked to be in danger when John lost his R4 game to Mark C Stokes! But he still finished equal first with Tony Weller, both on 4 points out of 5! Mark C Stokes and Max Kershaw shared 3rd place with 3 points each, followed closely by Alain Pardoen and Oleg Korenevski on 2.5, with Ross Barnard on 1 and Gail Young on 0. For those who like to see the underdog cause an upset, here is the Round 4 clash between John Myers,1973, and Mark C Stokes,1533.
