The 2015 MCC Championship consists of 48 players split into five divisions.

The 'A' division includes 3 players rated over 2200: Yita Choong 2297, Stephanus Kurniawan 2266, and Ihsan Ferozkohi 2207. So far Stephanus is 2/2, Yita 4/5, ihsan 2.5/5 despite beating Yita. Only 3 players in the 'A' are rated below 1950, and two of these are teenagers George Carolyn-Unkovich (2014 Aus U16 champ) and Adam Kelly doing very well on 3.5/5.

Thanks for posting Rob. It's nice to see some chess news from WA. Looks like there will be some very tough battles in all divisions of the Championship! Cheers!

I'm thinking it might be worth including WA in the title (eg. WA MCC) so people dont think the MCC is the Melbourne Chess Club.

Thread title changed

As the original thread title was still causing confusion even with the (WA) added I have changed it to "Metro CC Championships" to avoid confusion with the long established and common use of MCC as an abbreviation for Melbourne Chess Club on this forum.

Stephanus Kurniawan 2266 clearly won the 'A' div with 9/9. Even though he did not play any rated games in 2014, he was too good for the likes of Yita 2270!! 2nd on 7 and Ihsan 2222!! 3rd on 5.5, plus the rest. This should push his rating close to top WA player Tristan Boyd 2339!! Teenagers Adam Kelly and George Carolyn-Unkovich did very well to finish joint 4th. Whilst the oldest players David Ellis 1957!! (CAWA) President and Peter Roza 1974!! (tournament organiser) were last.

The stronger than usual 'A' meant other divisions were tougher with the 'B' mostly players rated over 1800. Richard Lilly came 1st with 5.5/8 just half a point ahead of Gordon Dunlop and Gavin Adam. Richard may not have come first if he hadn't gained a forfeit win over Ned Tomic in this closely fought division. The 'C' div is incomplete but Alex Jones 5.5/8 is enough for at least equal 1st. Lowest rated youngster Luke Sandells clearly won the 'D' div with 7/9. In the 'E' div Ivan Johnson scored 6.5/7 to claim first with his only draw to veteran Peter Zylstra.
