Good luck to Justin Tan, formerly of Noble Park Chess Club (http://www.nobleparkchess.org.au/), who is competing in the Bunratty Classic (http://www.bunrattychess.com/).

Seems that Justin is playing lots of high class chess while studying in England.

The Open Tournament has Wesley So playing!

Short already questioned in one of his tweets, what's on earth So is doing at the ''drinking tournament'' :)

Nige must have been on the turps himself, cos he certainly wasn't playing chess in his 27 move Round 3 loss to countryman Peter Wells. :)

Good work from Justin so far: 4/8 against a 2450+ field. I believe he just needs a draw with white for an IM norm. The remarkable result so far is bottom seed Bjorn Thorfinnson scoring a GM norm with a round to spare: two points clear of the field.

I don't know much about this tournament but it strikes me as extremely weird that only one of 10 participants is Irish. There's a few strong Irish FMs that I'm sure would relish the chance to play for an IM norm.

It is odd, but maybe they weren't as willing to stump up the big entry fees that are usually charged for IM candidates in these sorts of events.

Congratulations to Justin Tan for his IM norm with a score of 4.5/9!:clap:
